Kelly just made a hash of a header back to his keeper. Very lucky not to concede a goal.

Paddy McCarthy must be close to being MOM.

I was very suprised to see McCarthy captaining Leicester. He played very well. Kelly was been played out of position so I'll let him off the hook. :)

A bit closer than Kelly I would imagine.

Paddy is from Edenmore in Dublin. He started off with St.Malachys and moved onto Stella Maris when he was 13/14. While there he was spotted by Man City at the age of 16. Hopefully the next manager will give him a call up   :)

Only caught bits on the radio & saw last 5 mins on TV. Was Kelly bad?
Radio 5 Live said McCarthy was excellent. Captain too. Very encouraging. I've been having doubts about how good McCarthy can be but I feel much better now.
Crafty Toe Poke: Was that your tricolour waving on TV after the 3rd goal?
In general, another very encouraging weekend for the Irish in England.
McCarthy, Foley, Keogh, Deeney, Gilroy and more.

Stephen Kelly had a nightmare, cause of two Leicester goals. Failed to challenge at the back post for the first goal and then played De Vries onside for the final goal.

It was nice to see Keane giving Maybury a hug at the start of the game in the tunnel. Maybury was skimmed by Lennon a few times. Kelly didn't have a good game and Robbie missed a few chances but was captain, which was nice to see. McCarthy did well but was hoping Leics would get stuffed - playing the Owls next Saturday. Didn't want them coming on a high.
Hansen on the BBC panel was laughable and contemptuous of Leicester. He looked bored being there and said Spurs would win it by 5. The only thing predictable about football is its unpredicabilty. Lawrenson in commentary called the winning goal offside, failing to take note of the right full back playing him on. Not a great day for the "experts" on BBC.

I asked this on another site too:
When was the last time 2 Irishmen captained their sides in the cup?
I wa thinking about it in the Premiership, I'd imagine it was probably when United captained by Keane played either Charlton captained by Holland or Kinsella or Ipswich captained by Holland.

I have noticed you doing this a few times Is it ban punditry to predict a result and then to get it wrong. If you were able to predict results you would not work as a pundit but you would be a professional gambler. I would much rather a world where pundits actually put their ass on the line and predict a result. The alternative is to say it could be a draw or maybe Spurs will win or then again there is a possibilty Leciester will win.

no stuttgart, not my tricolour on that occasion, sweet moment though, the side owed the home fans a performance.
I thought Lennon comfortably had the beating of Maybury all game and Kelly looks a far better player on the right,he didnt seem confident at all at l.b. Keane faded after being busy early on but i thought McCarthy was superb all game,
heres an interview with McCarthy from the leicester o.s. today about captaining the side and the game

heres the leicester manager on McCarthys debut as captain,he was linked with sheff utd earlier in the week but i dont know if this had any bearing on it or not.
Paddy is long-term leader of City men
by Andy Mann
Defender Paddy McCarthy was a triumphant skipper last night and, from the way his manager is talking, it will not be the last time the Irishman will wear the City armband.
Danny Tiatto is club captain, then comes Dion Dublin, but McCarthy is definitely a leader in waiting.
Levein said: "That was his first outing as captain and it is obviously something we have got in mind for the future."

well stutt, obviously things need to improve but im not too worried because they are actually playing some nice football lately and statistically create more chances than most sides in the division, tis a big root and branch rebuild here with young players with hunger and potential replacing experienced demotivated and expensive ones, which takes time.
they have gone from playing poorly and losing to playing well but not winning so these players have never actually put a run of wins together in their careers but i dont think they will go down and theres 3r4 arriving in the window including a striker to hopefully convert some of those chances.
if beating spurs in the manner they did doesnt give them the belief then i dont know what will and there are a few players here who will be prem bound in time with or without leicester city, and McCarthy could well be one of these.

I think they're too good to go down too. They're no worse than a lot of teams above them. Yesterday was the big performance we've been waiting for from McCarthy. Levein obviously likes what he sees which is very encouraging for Ireland.

There's a lot of good young centre halves coming through right now, O'Brien and Dunne aren't 26 yet. Hopefully they've a good 6-8 years left at senior international level. McShane and McCarthy are playing well. Dont forget Breen and Doherty (playing regularly at centre half for Norwich) are still options

Don't worry, I hadn't! That's why I'm so glad to see McCarthy play well :)

yeah, even when he was ropey here early on he generally showed enough good to persist with him through the bad and yesterday he put it all together,he seemed to relish the challenge of marking Keane and there was plenty banter between them, good to see.
hopefully he will keep it between the ditches and fulfill the potential.

i was home over Christmas and missed norwich's visit but Mrs CraftyToePoke told me Doherty was dodgy, that he looked clumsy all game.

Agreed to a certain extent that you want a pundit to predict results. However, what I was commenting on was the dismissive way he treated Leicester when the history of the FA Cup says you do that at your peril. Look at Ferguson. he didn't learn from his experience against Exeter a season or so back and once again fielded a weakened team in one of the two competitions they can win  What exactly are the players being rested for ?. But this debate is for elsewhere - not in the Ireland Forum.

Self-preservation!
Hopefully Millwall will have Doyle, Dunne & Cogan playing, and SWFC will have Whelan, Coughlan, Partridge & Corr. That's all. I've only been there once before - 4 yres ago to see Sadlier (who scored 2), Steve Reid & Robbie Ryan. What a grim place in mid-winter.
My mate in work is a season ticket holder but he's going to Twickenham that afternoon for the 6 Nations so I'm taking his ticket.

One of those Irish Millwall players is bound to score - the Irish always score against Wednesday (Holland got his first ever FA Cup goal last weekend). Corr won't be playing. Wednesday have just signed two more strikers so he's back down the pecking order. Eagles has gone on loan to someone else from Man U so Partridge should get a few more games. Coughlan and Whelan should also be playing. You'll like Coughlan. He's a real "put my head where it hurts" type of centre half.
