I think Ricky Gervais has a bit of work to do to get to LD's level to be honest. Seinfeld, most successful sitcom of all-time, and Curb, IMO the greatest comedy of all time. The Office is up there with Seinfeld, Fawlty Towers etc, but to be honest Extras, while good, is not in the same class. The Office is the only thing Gervais has done of real quality. Extras is ordinary and his standup stuff hasn't been overly impressive. Still think John Cleese is way ahead of Gervais, while FT only had one series you have to take into account the Python stuff and his work in film etc.
LD and RG have similar styles though, should be a good show.
Good reminder. Should be interesting show. Curb is very acquired taste. The Doll (http://www.hbo.com/larrydavid/episode/season2/episode17.html) is my favourite episode.

take ben stiller etc out of extras and there aint too much to talk about, oh apart from les dennis.
1 got the 1st two series of curb on dvd, off next week for 2 weeks so gonna enjoy every sec of it.
on another note, seen the best sitcoms of all time last night on more 4. decided by writers, seinfeld was 1, fawlty towers was 2.....curb was around 5....of course fraiser was up there too.
the office was at 10, personally dont find it funny at all:o

im a pre office gervais fan so im used to him being a lot worse than he is now , the 11 oclock show stuff was very funny .
the stand up shows are brilliant but the best is the xfm show now gone to bbc radio 2 . its him steve merchant ( the real genius behind the office as he wrote most of it ) and karl pilkinton . check the xfm xite for the archives you can download some shows .this is so good miles better than the office .
extra's has to be seen at least twice it does drag in between jokes but its still class .
i got the 5th season of curb this week more classic larry david moments like when he accuses a nurse of robbing a baseball and sticking it up her huge vagina .

was frasier not number one?

seinfeld 3?
there was some strange choices in the rest of it.
Dont agree with lists of anything
I think extras is pretty good. some of the lines are quality.ben stiller at the end of the first one is great.
the office is absolute class.

In his defense i think you need to watch say first 5 episodes as most of the humour is in-jokes when you know the characters traits like Seinfeld.
That show last night seemed to be a Ch4 promo to move Curb from E4/More4.

Frasier was number one and the list was on Channel 4 and Channel 4 shows did really well in it. I think Curb Your Enthusiasm is an acquired taste but It could not be described as crap. Just cause you dont like something does not mean it is crap.

miaow!!!
:)
was it not on ch4 already and nobody was watchin it and thats why it was moved?
when you are just flicking thru the stations and you stumble accross it, it seems very painful to watch but the clips last nite were hilarious.(the you/hugh ) you had to watch a few seinfelds to get into tho as well.

I've been watching Curb Y E since its been on TG4.... absolutely brilliant.... risky comedy at its best, full of awkward moments and situations in which you watch in bewilderment saying ' i would love too have the balls to say that'. My wife hates it, my friends hate it, it definitely is an acquired taste. Like Seinfeld, some people just don't get it. Thankfully, I do!
Feck it its friday afternnoon so some Curb quotes...
[Larry accidentally eats decorative manger scene cookies]
Becky: You ate the baby Jesus and his mother Mary.
Larry: I thought they were animal cookies.
Cheryl's Dad: Animal Cookies? What, are you kidding me?
Becky: Jesus Christ is not an animal.
Larry: I thought he was a monkey.
Cheryl's Dad: A monkey? Oh, please.
Cheryl's Mom: Larry, have you no shame?
Becky: The Son of God is not a monkey, Larry.
[In the women's room, which Larry had to use, he puts his water bottle in his pants instead of the trash to avoid being recognized]
Producer's daughter: [enters] Hi mister. Thanks for fixing my doll.
[hugs him]
Larry: Aww, don't worry about it sweetheart.
Producer's daughter: [looks at him, scared, and runs out] Mommy, mommy. The old man's in the bathroom, and he's got something hard in his pants.
Nearly wet myself (no pun intended) laughing at that one...
Wanda: Why'd you fire the black man?
Larry: I fired the black man... because... he's the guy who set up the whole system here and it doesn't work! And he's here like... every week, I'm givin' him checks, we've got five remotes, I can't turn it on... but I know, you know, *black* man can *never* do anything *wrong*, at least to get fired from a job! Black people *always* do everything right!
Wanda: [Walks over to TV, pushes button, fixes it] You gotta turn the damn satellite on for the TV to work! See the little green light? Just gotta turn it on! Or you can fire the black man. Whatever works for you.
