Saw it, great effects but the story line was bad and it lasted too long! I would have liked to know what the native islanders story was???? Who were they, where did they come from? Why were the people not interested in bringing a dinosaur back?

Agreed,why bother with the first 40 mins just wasting time on the boat etc.
The cgi was erratic in that parts of it were so obvious (running with the dinosaurs) and then brilliant (the bugs scene).

They were well happy when Kong was removed, I'd say.

I was wondering why they didn't bring anything else back either but I suppose the boat was only big enough for Kong.

Saw it, great effects but the story line was bad and it lasted too long!I think it was length all the way. They tried to out-epic an epic, which is just silly. And it'll be frustrating for them in the long run, because if they hadn't tried so hard, if they'd trimmed all the early fat of the movie, they could well have succeeded. It was a good storyline that conformed to all the Hollywood rules, but in a very unusual way, and in-line with the original. And the effects were stunning - I have to say I couldn't comment on the dinosaurs, because I sat too close to the screen - with incredible rendering.

In all honesty, I think if I'd come in an hour late, I would've said it was a brilliant film. As it was, I was bored senseless after an hour, and although it started picking up then, I was starting to wonder after two hours when the hell we were going to get to the city. (I didn't realise it was so long.) So close to becoming another classic, and yet...

Saw it over Christmas and wish I hadnt.
It was like 3 average films put together. The opening half hour or so
seemed to be there just as a bit of filler to create a long movie!

On a scale of 1 to 10, I thought it was fairly rubbish.

Well said, Just as my eyes were getting heavy another good part would pop up. I also didnt know how long it was, I even whispered to my girlfriend, the city part must be the sequal! 2/10! But glad i seen it...(If that makes sense)

have not watched it and don't think i will, i have watched 'The constant gardener' and a french/ethiopian movie Live and Become'(this is a brill film) lately would def recommend,esp the 2nd one.

You've answered your own question. Why else were all those dinosaurs so interested in taking on Kong (who seemed more than a match for any two of them) for a scrawny little piece of meat that wouldn't keep the munchies away until lunchtime? Why exactly a 30ft reptile is interested in human totty is another matter... screwy island.

On a more serious note, it was a good film, not a great one. Even with the auld brain switched off at the door, the island's ecosystem was a bit beyond my suspended disbelief, the film was too long, and seemed to mostly consist of closeups of Watts looking dopy or screaming, plus yet another pile of uninspiring CGI.

But nothing wrong in bringing back an old classic now and then. Texas Chainsaw Massacre, The Exorcist (Director's Cut), Return to the Blue Lagoon :D , ... They're even working on a re-make of Helter Skelter, which is about the Tate-LaTiata murders.

Some characters just never lose their attraction: the Devil, Charles Manson, King Kong, ... The more evil, the fuller the cinema. The old gem still works, throw an evil demon in the film and you will always get people that want to see it.

I saw it Sunday

There were a few bits and pieces that were drawn out, especially the fight with the dinosaurs, I got very sick of all the CGI stuff very quickly, while it was impressive I prefer to watch people acting I guess.

I actually liked the first hour and the build up, thought Black, Brody and Watts were decent but the back stories surrounding that kid off Billy Elliot were daft, I don't know why they tried to build the audience's affection for the character, only for him to disappear without having done anything.

Naomi Watts dancing and trying to make KK laugh was another thing I didn't quite get, couldn't he have just liked her in the same way a kid likes a doll, rather than trying to build up some smouldering gorilla-aussie love.

I gues that's me being overly picky though, I was well entertained for 3 hours, not a bad thing.

There were quite a few kids at the show who got completely freaked out at the 'natives' btw, I'm not sure what the cert was, but the 4 year old next to me shouldn't have been there.

If memory serves me correctly, the movie is 12A cert in Ireland.
I agree completely with you on the issue of the movie not being suitable for kids.

I went to see it at 19.00 and it finished at 22.20
There were kids of 4/5/6 etc. there and many of them were quite scared.
Not to mention how late they were out. I think it's irresponsible of parents to bring their kids to a movie like this an cinema staff should inform them accordingly when a movie contains such violence and gore.

Also, it doesn't enhance your enjoyment of a movie if you're subjected to the crying children of some inconsiderate parents.

If they had simply cut out the entire Jamie Bell storyline it would have been a much better movie because we wouldn't have to put up with him and the film would be a half hour shorter.
