While useful as a rough guide I wouldn't take those rnakings too seriously.

I think they base it on results as far back as 6 years which must explain the obvious abnomalies

They dont compare like with like, you have teams from Asia in the top 50 when some of them dont deserve to be there, then you have the US and Mexico who only have to play Wesley Charles, Eric Lavine and Avery John every now and again.

In reality they are way off the mark.

Brays Wesley Charles is a international for St. Vincent and the Grenadines, so is AFAIK the Caribbean's answer to James Mulligan, Jullian Joachim, not sure who he plays with nowadays.

They do weigh continents on their standard but it still doesn't stop the likes of Columbia making the toip 4.

columbia are presumably in the top four cos they won the copa america last year which is a pretty important international tournament

Yeah FIFA probably give as many ranking points to the Copa American than the European championships which is a bit unfair. Most of the top South American teams don't send their best (foreign based) players to the tournament + they have to make up the numbers by inviting the US & Japan doesn't IMO make it much better than the African Nations Cup as at least you have to qualify for that.
