Well I know not a great year for either NI or RoI in terms of qualifying but what would you say was the hghlght if any.
For me had to be Healy goal aganst England! Any ideas? if this post has been done elsewhere I apologise.
For RoI the best news I would have thought s Landsdowne getting fixed up.

On the international front nothing much to shout about other than the likes of Doyle, Elliott, Joey O'Brien emerging. Other plusses include people like McCarthy & McShane getting regular first team football & doing well.

Highlight at the time was Robbie Keanes goal against Israel . A great Irish goal and things looked really rosey when it was scored so that has to go down as my highlight.

Ya possibly the only highlight of a terrible year was the first 25 mins against Israel at home, everything after that was a downer. Christ we should've qualified, good line in one of the papers yesterday, "Kerr said let him be judged by his results, now that he has he's still complaining".

Always liked the man and I know he's being hurt by his sacking but he cant have any excuses. Heres to a better 06, it can be much worse than 05, presume we'll play 3 qualifiers this year, should be looking for a return of 5-7 points depending on who we play. Oh and theres the small matter of a new manager.....

As long as the right man is appointed manager and we see somewhere in the region of 6 new capped players - my picks: Ireland, O'Brien, Doyle, McCarthy, McShane, Flood - by the end of the year I'll be happy.

A decent start to the qualifiers in the Autumn would be nice, too, but not necessary,

Not sure about Flood Tets. I'd like Glenn Whelan given a run out and give more exposure to players like Steve Reid & McGeady.

A good manager is essential. Was anything written in the media about it over Christmas? I saw nothing online.

I'd say a decent start to the qualifiers is also essential if 2006 isn't seen to be another dud year.

Nothing really written about a new manager, apart from Troussier getting sacked by Morocco, so he could come back into the reckoning.

I think Flood will get at least one senior cap by the end of the year, even if it is only in the November friendly. He's out recovering from an operation at the moment, I think he'd expected back at the end of January

The match against Portugal. It was pretty much down hill from there.

The one thing I want from 2006 is a manager. At this moment any manager would do.

speaking of reid-what a goal he scored for blackburn last week-the speed of that shot was incredible. chap is a real powerhorse (if thats a word) and should be given a run if he manages to keep his place at bb

highlight for me was Kevin Doyle getting picked for the squad, he's not hit the big time yet so we'll get some cracking wholehearted displays of pride in the jersey WITH talent before he gets fat and disinterested like that bástard cheat Robbie Keane

At the beginning of the season he was supposed to be super fit, really motivated, he even scored a couple pre-season I think. Hasn't shown much else up until that goal though. So I'm yet to be convinced.

Yea great night for all that I can remember, great atmosphere throughout the day in all the pubs which usuallly doesnt happen with most bars anti football in the city but even they werent prepared to miss out on the money to be made.

The only negative of that night was that once it was over it left me dreaming of nights like that all the time and qualifying for a tournament. Afraid I was too young to remember spain and Mexico, but heres hoping 2006 brings more surprises and some great away trips and the same for ROI.
