It couldn't be, sure didn't Kilbane win it one year?

Hardly the best selection of goals there for goal of the year. Shay has to win Player of the year by a country mile...

Kilbane would it last year because he was excellent against Brazil, Czechs and pretty much every time he played in the centre up until the France match.

How did Kenny Cunningham get nominated for this? Is it for nostalgic reasons because he is retiring? I thought he had his worst year in an Irish shirt that I can remember.
It doesnt really matter though because Shay Given has to walk away with this one. They shouldnt have bothered announcing nominations for this category in my opinion, they should have just had Shay Givens name and an honourable mention for Dunne for having a decent year.

I'd say Cunningham has more right to be there than Dunne if its based on international matches alone. Other than the Cyprus match Kenny was excellent for us.

In fairness what does it say about 2005 and that the three nominated are defenders. If I had to pick 3 I'd be hard pushed I suppose those 3 are right...It has to be given

The most outstanding outfield performance of the year was Roy Keanes against France (h). That alone should have put him in the frame. But I agree that he wasn't because nothing should divert anyones vote from going to Shay.

The award is for Senior International Player of the Year, not Performance of the Year, which incidentally if it was a category would be won hands down by Shay Given in the away game in Cyprus.
How can one single performance in the year by RMK or anyone else be enough reason to 'automatically' put them in the frame for a Player of the Year award?

So you are back. I clearly wrote outfield performance of the year.

I never wrote 'automatically'.
How can one single performance be good enough? Because we have such a
sh!tload of poor outfield performances that it is difficult to find a 2nd or even a third nomination.

I should have read your post more carefully:rolleyes: but you didn't say what RMK's performance against France puts him in the frame for. However, as this thread is about nominees for FAI awards I assumed (maybe wrongly!) that you were referring to the Senior International Player of the Year award which the previous posts referred to.
If that was not the case, I may be wrong, but as far as I am aware there isnt any award for 'single performance of the year' outfield or goalkeeping (although a goalkeeping performance award might be a bit naff dont you think as there would be a very limited number of potential winners, one by my reckoning!)
