Athlone quintet released
Five Athlone Town players, including last season’s top scorer Alan O’Connor, will begin the search for a new club ahead of the 2006 eircom League season after being released by new midlanders manager Michael O’Connor this week.
Former Monaghan United striker O’Connor scored eight league goals for Athlone in 2005, but is on his way out of the club this winter. Others to be released are goalkeeper Tadhg Murphy, defender Graham O’Keeffe and midfield duo Michael McCann and Peter Rogers.
