Ireland have now lost three games from three at the Tournament of Toulon. On Monday night, they let a one-goal lead slip against South Africa despite playing some decent attacking football.

Andy Reid struck in the first half, hitting the back of the net with a deflected effort from 10 yards.

However, a mistake by Manchester United centre-back John O'Shea allowed Ashraf Hendricks to equalise and midway through the second period Lesley Manyathela headed the African's winner.

Starting eleven: Murphy (Tranmere); S Byrne (West Ham), Goodwin (Celtic), O'Shea (Man Utd), Tierney (Man Utd); Butler (Sunderland), Miller (Celtic), Gamble (Reading), Keane (Preston); Barrett (Arsenal), Reid (Nottm Forest).

Granted the u-20/21s haven't been grat for many years but I still haven't been impressed by Given at all.

Both his manner & results he getting have been poor.

Saw the game on Eurosport last night. Ireland dominated the posession but did very little with it, the SA keeper barely had a save to make. We were very lightweight up front and both forwards were regularly outpaced by the South Africans. Andy Reid looked particularly unimpressive in my opinion, although he did score the deflected goal. Both SA goals were as a result of awful defending, and the Eurosport commentators were saying that it was the same story in the last game against Italy i.e. loads of possession but no cutting edge and crap defending giving soft goals away. Don Givens is a useless manager alright, but remember we massively over-achieve under Brian Kerr at youths level because he's able to get the best out of the players, Don Givens obviously isn't able to do that.

Don Givens record is terrible and he has consistently insulted the eL. He should have gone ages ago.
