what are the chances of getting tickets outside the grounds for various matches...is it the obvious...the smaller the teams the better the chance of tickets or has anyone found otherwise??

Depends on who you want to see - England, Holland, Germany etc are crazy as are Japan and a few more.
If you just want to go to a few games you'll do ok just pick the less well supported countries.

Tickets will definately be personalised. However I am not sure that this will include your passport number. Each ticket will include a smart chip but really how will they various statiums be able to check each passport agaist each ticket, not a hope in reality.
There is some sort of a "swap shop" that will be attached to the FIFA website, again not sure of the exact details as it is not live yet

My mate got tickets on the net, spent 400 euro a ticket for Italy v Ghana!!
Do you reckon he will have problems getting into the match??
He's booked flights and hotels too :/
gspain
10/02/2006, 3:19 PM
Names will be on the tickets as they have been since 1994.
FIFA claim no personal info will be on the chip so that should exclude passport numbers. As has been mentioned here before it would take 9 hours to check the passport numbers with the tickets for everybody entering a stadium. Spot Checks are of course possible but unlikely I think.
The one thing that could happen though is it will be easy to cancel all tickets of somebody found to be touting.
The guy who paid €400 for an Italy v Ghana ticket will probably be OK but he would surely have done better outside the game.

Do you think I would be ok getting tickets on the day?

I'm not too concerned re the names on the tickets. I'm probably going to 8 games now and my name will be on 2 of the tickets.
Tunisia v Saudi should be OK in Munich. Ivory Coast v Serbia probably also. The others will be very tough.
I may have spares for Tunisia v Saudi at face value. I'm trying to do a swop for a game on the 16th for my brother or a game on the 18th for both of us. He'll probably get into Mexico v Angola on the 16th OK on the day but the games on the 18th will be a problem.

In Euro 1988 I went to two of Italy's group games without having bought tickets in advance. I arrived only 10 minutes before kick-off for the game in Cologne and got a ticket for almost pitch level at half-price ( a 49 DM ticket for 25 DM for the record). This might arise at this World Cup at the so-called lesser attractive fixtures.

In Euro88 you could also buy all Ireland's tickets at face value from the F.A.I. right up to the start of the finals. You could buy Ireland v England tickets at Stuttgart for face value outside and i ended up selling a spare Italy semi final ticket for less than face value to an Italian.
Somehow I think if we had qualified this time and had been drawn to meet England in Stuttgart it might be a little harder to get tickets.
I think France98 might be the best guide re tickets and they were a problem then at most games. A friend tried to go to 4 games on a cheap Ryanair flight and only got into Nigeria v Bulgaria.
Best to avoid England, Holland, Germany, Brazil, Japan and Australia. If you want to see a good team then try for Argentina, Italy, Spain or Portugal. They will not be as well supported. try midweek rather than weekend games. Maybe combine a couple of games together i.e. one that you can be pretty sur eof getting into - eg Korea v Togo or Tunisia v Saudi and one of the better teams.
Good combinations I can see are
12/6 Italy v Ghana
13/6 Korea v Togo
14/6 Saudi v Tunisia or try Spain v Ukraine
15/6 Ecuador v Costa Rica
16/6 Argentina v S&M
19/6 Spain v Tunisia
20/6 Paraguay v T&T
21/6 Iran v Angola
Flights from here are very cheap - Aer Lingus into Frankfurt, direct trains from th eairport or Ryanair into Hahn, other options too.
It could be a long time before we have another world Cup in Europe. Definitely not the same as watching Ireland i na world Cup but still a great experience.

2 tickets available for Portugal v Iran in Frankfurt on saturday June 17th. They are Cat 1 obstructed view. They need to be paid for by Feb 24th to FIFA - €145 incl shipping and you will have to pay bank charges.
Tickets are in my cousin's name but I can turn the gmail account over to you and you can change the address and password. FIFA will allow you to change the name I understand for a fee later.
Note my cousin is getting married on May 28th and the address on the tickets cannot be used to receive them so you must change to your own address.
I've paid nothing for these and don't want anything in return apart from a pint of German beer on the day. I do want to see the tickets go to a good home who will use them.
PM me for more detials. Realistically you would need to start the bank transfer on Monday at the latest.

Well, I was stupid and completly forgot about the sale yesterday. Doubt I would have got anything anyway. Myself and a buddy are basically gonna go to the world cup for as long or short as we have tickets. Just finisheing college so we've no time constraints. Not too pushed on who we see or where. Totally flexible. If anyone is in the same position as gspain and needs to pay before monday for tickets that they don't want, please, pm me. I'll probably take them.
Cheers,

Nobody needs to be worrying about not getting into a stadium if their name isn't on a ticket. I've been to over 20 Fifa / Uefa matches where they have the names on the ticket of those who purchased them and have never had any problems. Some of the tickets had my name on them, most didn't. I've had tickets with english, bulgarian, swedish, german, italian and more names on them. I even had a ticket that had FA of England printed on it. Once it's a valid ticket you will get in.

Hi there,
Myself and a friend from England are going to Germany for the World Cup, really only expecting to take it in in pubs or town squares and soak up the atmosphere due to how difficult it is to get tickets, so you can imagine how ecstatic I was when I managed to finally hit a bit of luck with the misfiring FIFA website and got a TST-3 series ticket following Tunisia. Originally I had thought it was a pair of tickets to each game, so I was on the phone to my friend immediately shouting about how we were going to get to see Rahid Jaidi, Hatem Trabelsi et al in action. It later dawned on me that I had in fact only purchased 1 ticket per group game, which is a bit crap. Not able to transfer single tickets from the TST package and unwilling to travel great distances in Germany just to go see a game on my own, I tried putting them up for resale, but the stupid thing won't let me as I got them through a resale. We've decided just to revert to plan A and catch the games together, so we can analyse all the better etc! More fun that way really, and that's what it's all about.
So if anyone is interested in buying a Tunisia TST-3 set of tickets from me for face value, please get in touch. My email is lysaghtb@tcd.ie (better contact that way, I rarely get to check foot.ie all that often anymore). Ticket price is €187.25. Match schedule is as follows:
14th June, Munich: v Saudi Arabia (6pm)
19th June, Stuttgart: v Spain (9pm)
23rd June, Berlin: v Ukraine (3pm)
If anyone has any tickets for swaps I am definitely interested. Any combinations are welcome as long as they are in pairs because there's two of us going - even for one game - we can work out the difference in price. Would be really grateful for anyone who could help on this matter - I'm stuck with 3 tickets I don't want, when all I really want is 2 tickets to one game!!!
Hope this can be of help to somebody out there anyway,
All the best

I'm down for conditional tickets too but don't really expect anything. I booked my flights anyway. Goin over on 21st June for the last 16 days of the tournement. If anyone has any spare tickets for any of those games please get in touch.
Realistically, it's gonna be one of the last group games, and seeing as we arrive in Frankfurt on the day Holland play Argentina there, we'll prob hang around for that. Next day probably gonna go follow Brazil fans (hottest ladies?), so if anyone has tickets for the last day of the group stage going spare please let me know. There's some awful games that day, Korea V Swizerland and Russia V Saudi Arabia so hopefully.
