Apparently we've signed Mark Rooney from Drogheda.
Don't get the rationale here at all. I mean, he couldn't break into our Under-21 team two years ago. Of the four strikers currently on the books, three are now speed merchants with questionable (in Rooney's case non-existent) finishing ability. Is he there to provide back-up for McCarthy? Or vice versa? Are we withdrawing from senior football in favour of athletics? :confused:
A post on the guestbook claims that players released include Brian Kelly (! :eek: :mad: ), Alan Kelly (fair enough, not up to it), Kevin Williamson (ditto), Alan Mulcahy (shame, he had potential, but he's not a kid anymore and a manager's patience is finite), Trevor Vaughan (no surprise despite a reasonable showing during the run-in), Ray Scully (form never recovered after being summarily dropped for no good reason mid-season, but Crowls is a more than adequate replacement) and Brendan Kennedy (pity, hope we have two decent 'keepers lined up.)
