We have had the discussion about this before. They are legal in Russia as they exploit an arcaic russian media law, but downloading here still I feel will be deemed illegal :) Hard luck but good try.

there was a debate about the legality of this site a while back in this forum .. its very hazy to say the least, although I use them myself. I suppose at least be seen to be trying to adhere to the rule of law:o

to be honest i have mates in the industry, one of which is in the process of launching an alubm himself and also launching an artist whom has been signed in the US with one of the big 5.

he asked them about it and they said its cool, u are "paying" for the music. its not for or share ware.

Makes not a difference if I pay or not. Its about whether the people who own the rights get paid. You pay for pirate cds on the street, just cos money is involved does not legimatise it.

Anything involving russian websites is to be avoided like the plague. Jeesh lads, I'm all for illegal downloading of everything but NO WAY are my cc details going to anyone I'm not 100% sure of...

I use that site too. Never had problems with credit card or anything. Its certainly more legal than any of the file sharing sites. I think it exploits radio licence loophole in Russia or something. I have no knowledge that is illegal in Ireland as i am paying for downloads - that'll be my defense in court anyway ;)

Once you have credit in your account you can listen to albums free (can't download) at low quality rate - not that you'd notice.

I disagree with Itunes & other sites charging different rates in different countries. Its like the DVD region ripoff.

I signed up yesterday and had no problem downloading $25 worth of music.

However, I think that this is illegal. For starters, The Beatles back catalogue, which has not been released online, is available for download, as are some Beatles bootlegs. Some albums have interference on them, and I doubt that the artists are getting any money.

Perhaps they are exploiting a loop-hole though.

Ok I wil lsay it again, when has paying for goods been a case for it being legal. Buying cocaine is illegal, buying submachine guns on the black markert is illegal, buying tunes off the web without the proper permissions on the tunes is illegal :) Really dont get the arguemnet "But I paid for it...."

i have spoken to IRMA, the goods are being paid for no matter the price, the customer buys them in good faith, the onis is on the supplier to be correct and as they are in russia IRMA has contacted its russian equal to ask for them to deal with it.

I'm signed up with two Russian sites and download all the time, no problems at all. Anyway, isn't it illegal to UPLOAD? You can't get done for downloading in this country AFAIK.

I use that russian site now. There's a decent bit on wikipedia about them and their 'legality'

Won't link to it but you should be able to find it...

I just dont understand your argument of I'm buying in good faith. Ignorance has never really been a good defence? As well as that, I just wonder who your financing with your downloads. Maybe I am teh only one with a conscience :)

I have no problem with the illegality of it BTW. All I was worried about was payment and seeing as I can do it through paypal, I'm OK with it. Poor starving millionaire musicians...

Gareth

Not all musicians are millionaires. I find it funny people begrudge the money to someone who produces the music they enjoy and then if their house is robbed, they call the robbers scumbags etc.

A bit of a stretch to compare the two. Unless they broke into my house and copied everything and took their own copies away leaving my stuff where it is.

Are people here suggesting they never download music or dvds through "share" sites?

I don't. I use bittorrent for tv shows.

Mrs Dodge uses it for films

Yes. I never do. Ever.
