According to the Cork City website on Sunday, Kearney was supposedly signing for Shels on Tuesday (today) if he was not offered the terms he wanted, however Fenlon is quoted on our site as saying he has no interest in signing him. Any update on this?

Excellent player and all that, but surely we have enough wingers? Shels will be announcing some signings in the middle of next week apparently.

More than enough wingers. In fact more than enough midfielders - Byrne, Crawford, Reynolds, Ndo, Hoolahan, Cahill, Baker, Ryan, Chambers, Tyrrell, Moore...

no need for shels to sign him but he is a quality player. Maybe it is just a threat from kearney to make sure he gets the money he wants

Well Tyrrell's gone for starters...

Although if we did sign Kearney I bet we could do something Cork couldn't manage- find a jersey that fits him!!!!

Killian Brennan is a much better player who is more interested in his football than his hair and pay packet. IMO this would be worse than Ollie Cahil, what exactly apart from fullfiling his greed would Kearney get from this?

Is Brennan out of contract and available?
If not, keep your love of him to yourself.

I heard that Ndo was coming to City and that's why City are stalling on the Kearney contract.

Will say whatever I want Peader unless the mods object to it. You certainly won't stop me. This is a DISCUSSION forum and I was adding that Kearney is over-rated.

Care to shed a little more light on this ?

We took him on loan mid way through the season and he was absolutey brilliant for us. I'd take him back in a heartbeat. I heard Fenlon highly rates him and a new contract was on the table for him ? But that we were keeping an eye on things to see how it paned out.......

Wonderful signing if we could get him and is one of the best young players in the league. Best left foot in the league

It would be nice if you had something relevant to add but you simply want to use every means to profess your love for Brennan.

I'll start a thread for you about him and you can amuse yourself in there.

Back to the Liam Kearney thing, he was the only Cork City FC player not wearing his suit on Sunday night.

That spoke volumes!

killian brennan is a drog and the only reason he signed a new contract is so derry would get a few bob for him from drogheda. he's coming home. not that we particularly will fall over ourselves because he has had one good season. was prob a fluke like b molloy who had one good season for us thought he had made it and then was sh**e.best of luck next season one season wonders city. sorry..... derry city

Aye, he's a wee knacker!

If $hel$ are looking to cut down on their midfield Ollie Cahill & Wes would be welcome at The Brandywell.

Seriously mate, you don't need him.
He's not up to it at the level you need to compete at next season.

Aye, we could be doing with a few extra squad players for next season.

Hopefully we won't let Wes or Ndo go anywhere, but ya never know! :( Personally I'm banking on the two of them to be the catylysts for a fantastic run of form for Shels next year! ;) I thought Tyrrell was being offered a fulltime pro contract, but perhaps Drums Red is right, maybe he did leave?

Unless we're letting some wingers/midfielders go, we don't need Kearney. I can't see Ollie being let go as he made the left full spot his own during the latter half of this season, unless we sign a natural left back.

Wouldn't be surprised to see Crawley and/or Baker leave.

Honestly, so do I. At least Ollie can do a solid job as a left back. No point us having more wingers for the sake of it! We agree! Yay! ;)

From what i heard, Kearney has a big head (can totally picture him as a Subbuteo figure) about what he deserves.
He's undoubtedly talented and lightning fast but he's not the most important player in the squad that he thinks he is.
Probably thinks that cos he was in Doylers boat with the under21s that he's entitled to a few grand.
Needs someone to take his place in the first eleven to give him a kick up the ass.
Would be much more worried if it was Flynn, Gamble, Mickey Devine, Bennet, Danny,Roy or even Fenn and Murray.

I'll tell ya what, if you were performing well enough (not out of this world, but consistant when called upon) in a team who had just won their first league in so many years would you take about 20% cut in wage? Particularly when there were 2 clubs offering about 50% more per week? It's not about the money, it's about not being treated like a scum bag by the club.

There is no decision made yet as far as I know.

"From what i've heard" he was on a poor wage got offered a decent increase and accepted ,then rejected it.

Ah well, time will tell. If Fenlon doesn't want him and he thinks City are under-estimating him then he can only try pimp himself to Drogs i'd imagine.
Hope it's all sorted out.

Absolutely, I think it might work itself out when the dust settles.

Not necessarily all offers on the table are from Ireland either.

True.

As for Kearney been offered a 20% cut in wages, that's the saddest load of old boll!x anyone from any side has tried to inject into the debate.

If Shels are offering him a 50% pay rise, given by the poor mouth stories going around, he should be up to 3 shillings & sixpence next year.

I think Kearney rejected the 1st contract, was offered good increase to make him one of highest paid players but won't sign that.

I would guess from his body language that he wants to leave but may not have any concreate offers yet...

Just like real world jobs sometimes money is the only objective & sometimes it isn't...

Poor mouth my hole, we're talking big money to any ordinary punter like me or you. Unless of course your not a working class hero. :p

I'm not on any "side" of any "debate" either. Just what I know. I don't even follow City so I know very little of the guy playing wise.

It is true from what I've heard Clifford, though neither side comes out smelling of roses, there was a lot of "we have a right to do this" rather than "this was the right thing to do".

I'm incredibly wealthy as it happens, I am to money what Chuck Norris is to pain. :D

Story is....

Kearney came to the club unproven and got a contract that reflected that, no one argues that his current deal isn't relatively low. He verbally agreed an increase with Lennox and the club started paying it immediately, then he decided he wanted more than the increase and so wouldn't actually sing. The Club then made him pay back the extra cash as he was back working under his original contract.

The grey area seems to be whether the verbal agreement was a new contract or 'topping-up' cash prior to new contract negotiations, the latter I've never heard of so that's why my stance is what it is.

Then the world and his mother were linked to him, Shels were talking to his dad, though Shels say they weren't, all of scandinavia wants a piece of him apparently.

Hopefully it'll be worked out and he'll sign an extension.
AFAIK he's out of contract now though

He can sing as well? ;)

Fair enough, I've got you correct for most of that. It wasn't as simple as earlier suggested, that the club offered massive increases.

It would be great to see him stay and develop, especially with Devine off to Celtic....ha ha, I jest.

What Kearney earns has no interest to me.

It seems a few people resent the fact that he might earn a few quid.
