A GUFC youth Acadamy
Every club in the eircom League should have one - it's the only way to stop the drain of players to England. And potentially both a source of players for the future and income from future transfers when a top class player comes through the ranks.
We are never going to be at the races without one.

The signing of Ciaran Foley is certainly not confirmed as we speak.
According to sligo supprters both Ciaran FOley and Ryan O'Donnell have signed for us? They say they got this info from the players themselves??
If so I will be delighted to have ryan on board, excellent player:D , But Foley? the lad just roughs everybody up (a tony mannion player) but has very little football skills.:(

foley is a quality player, was only let go because him and Connor didn't see eye to eye.
He will be a brilliant player for ye as he has a great work rate which is needed to give the other midfielder opportunities to go forward.
He plays like Makelele at Chelsea.Breaks up attacks and gets the ball moving.

I think the best out of the players were in talks with is Stephie Gavin. He seems to be rated very highly by the Athlone boys.

When he is fit he owns the wing. Super player hopefully we can keep him.

Do you think United should put a bid in for any of these
players that were 'let go' by Shamrock Rovers recently:
Keith Doyle,
Kieran Foley,
Willo McDonagh,
Gavin McDonnell,
Keith O’Halloran
Or these from Athlone Town::
Andy Noonan,
Gavin Doyle

Moran, Lavine stay put in Galway
Galway United have confirmed that strike pairing Barry Moran and
Eric Lavine will be staying at the club for next season.
Speculation had been growing that either one of 2005’s first-choice
strike pairing would quit the club following the acquisition of Alan
Murphy from Derry City.
However, manager Stephen Lally has revealed that Moran and Lavine
– who scored 16 goals between them in the season just ended – will
be staying at Terryland Park.
He told the Irish Sun: “We are putting together an exciting side and
Barry and Eric will be central to our plans.”
Apparently signed which is great news . Ciaran Foley and Stevie Gavin have signed which makes the squad significantly stronger.Key Position is a strong tough midfielder there is one back in Galway but seemingly his expectations are a bit high.

news just after being added to our official site http://www.galwayunitedfc.ie/
Stephen Lally has secured the signing of Stephen Gavin (winger) from Athlone Town over the weekend. Talks are still ongoing with Ciaran Foley (Sligo Rovers) and the club hope to be in a position soon to make an announcement about him joining.
I thought Foley had signed already??

who is the midfielder currently in Galway that GUFCT mentioned?
It was never posted on the official site that Foley had signed, was not in the CT on Friday either.
Patrick Dunne
12/12/2005, 1:22 PM
I presume that gufct is talking about Fran Carter.
When a player is officially signed, GUFC will post on our website and inform the media. Until then, any rumours are mere conjecture.

Fran Carter has not signed for GUFC. Both parties have had talks with a view to the Newcastle man re-joining the club.

thought he might head home this season. Great player, but getting on now. Still excellent with the set peices, but I feel he hasnt got the legs any more to be getting a starting place at united with the young lads that are now starting to come through at united.
Anyway, loyal servent to the club and a very nice bloke. I wish him and his family all the best in the future and he can be guaranteed a warm welcome on his return to terryland.

Remember what happened when Derek McCarthy joined us from Limerick tho (wasnt he their best player as well the season before he joined us) he only made the team on a couple of occasions and then when he went back to Limerick after one season with us, he started scoring again but then again we have to say a big thank you to them for Bobby Ryan :D

Just saw thet David Goldbey is going to Hibs!!
What a stupid and pointless move for him..
We have the potential to do great things this Season if we continue how we finished up last season..
I do think its his loss moreso than ours

David was released by the club. His goalscoring record was never prolific.
Always gave 100%.
I hope he gets on well in Edinburgh.
