View Full Version : Turks complain about treatment by Swiss

Apparently the Turkish officials are complaining that their national anthem was booed by the Swiss. As usual they are stoking up the fires before the return leg as if going to Turkey won't be hostile enough. Apart from Russia and possibly Georgia, is there a worse place to go to as a visiting fan. I will never forget the game we won 3-1 there - Irish fans spat on, missiles thrown etc etc

The poor diddums.

Shouldn't happen but as you say they're stoking it. I hope the swiss hold on and get past them. Fair play to Switzerland -I thought it was a no-brainer that Turkey would come out of this tie -and they might yet -but they've a lot to do now and if they ship a goal they're fcuked.

Didn't they do the same when they played us? Complaining that the M50 was too conjested for their liking?

Switzerlands 2-0 win shows how much the irish football media & public underestimnate them. Just because their players don't play in the Premiership doesn't mean they worse than us. I also think the Swiss world ranking is lower than should be.

I never thought I'd cheer for Turkey at anything butt I hope they turn the Swiss over. The Swiss will go to the World Cup and just roll over, just like in the Euros, they were a disgrace, complete rubbish. At least the Turks will give someone a game.

Sorry but any team that has Frei in it, I want them to lose.

There would be huge support for Turkey in Germany but because the Swiss put us out, I hope they do well. However, the two teams which put us out of Euro 2004 were the worst teams in it (Russia and Switzerland).

Switzerland weren't that bad at Euro 2004. A draw against Croatia, dominated against England until they went down to 10 men after an hour, beating France up until the last 15 minutes.

I've never understood that logic. So we can delude ourselves that we are better than we really are? The Swiss are muck, I hope they crash and burn at the World Cup if they make it. TURKIYE, TURKIYE!

Latvia and Germany weren't exactly great either. :) Germany were beaten by the complete Czech reserve team bar Galasek.

There's a certain sense to it. If we lost out to a team that makes a pig's ear of it and show themselves to be brutal, what does that make us ? Even more brutal. However, if the team does really well, then we can say "Hey, we drew twice with that team. We must be good".

Poor consolation I know :(

The point really is that the two teams that finished ahead of us both came bottom of their groups.

have to admit, i can't stand the Turks

or more particularly, the governing bodies' reluctance to take any action for their repeated violent offences. if this occured in England they would be banned/suspended from international football.

glad the Swiss got through

Sepp Blatter I think it was , is proposing to chuck them from the 2010 World Cup which I think would be a good idea. But if Switzerland are chucked out of the World Cup 2006 for their part in the fracas... does that mean that someone other than Turkey could qualify......?;)

Well it certainly won't be Ireland since we finished behind Israel

Thread derailment and swiss bashing!! Yay! You're lucky I'm in neutral mode right now ^^

To stay on topic though, the stress levels were high from the start of the first leg game.

From what I have been following on "le matin.ch" there were scuffles happening after the first game in Bern. In the tunnel, a turkish player tripped a swiss one, who admitidely insulted him back and then came in the turkish officials with there belts... Slam, whip, bam! Just like they do back home!

The swiss then flew over to Istambul to be recieved by banners reading: "Frei son of a B...T" "Turkey to Win" and "Welcome to Hell"... and that was after being held for more than 2 hours by the customs who just stared and laughed at the swiss delegation.. Then they got eggs and stones thrown at their bus as they finally left the airport..

And the turks complain about a "swiss treatment"?

How about this: We'll send you turkish savages a card from Germany with a lovely "wish you were here"

Absolute b*llocks!! They got away with a lot more sh*t than this for years and never even got a point taken off them.

Personally think the Turks have picked on the wrong people here. Bon riddance hopefully to these horrible c*nts. Love to be a Swiss fan leaving Sh*tanbul the other morning. Shame the other scum - whoooops can't say that about the Stadium wreckers on this forum - weren't given a similar red card years ago.

Why, oh why would anybody be surprised by what happened on Wednesday night, not least FIFA. The Turks has a long reputuation of behaving like animals at football matches. We all know that animals are usually locked up in cages, so the Turkish fans that rampage in stadiums, along with players and police that lash out and disregard law and order should be watching football matches in cages until some time that they can behave like civilised human beings. Is it any wonder that they behave so absurdly when they carry banners inciting hatred and violence, inflamming an already hostile atmosphere. Does it need to have 500 fans from another country to die in a Turkish gound before UEFA/FIFA takes action and punish?

Hear, hear even :D Yes, I am not sure what the UEFA or FIFA observers at Turkish home games have been observing over the years because they seem to have taken no action. There are repeated incidents similar to what happened to the Swiss yet nothing has been done. The away fans are abused and there is usually a free for all at the end of the games which the police join is against the away team.
