The citizens of Ireland should change the use of Shannon as a stop-over for US troops so that what happened in London could be avoided, an Islamic cleric said in Dublin yesterday.....
That was taken from todays news. Do you really think that we will be targeted by Islamic groups for letting the US use Shannon. Obviously if they were to hit it would be somewhere in sublin as it is well known but i thought i heard somewhere before that they know what Ireland are going through as we are having our own "troubles" with the English and sympathise with us. I dont know what to believe.

I don't think any extremist group would be too bothered about our own "troubles" so yes I think we could be a target for letting them use Shannon. You only have to look at the Middle East where Jordan is despised for letting the U.S. use their airspace and land during the Gulf War.
On the other hand though, whatever anyone's opinion about the U.S. I would hate to think that we would ever give too much attention to veiled threats from some cleric.

If we are a target. We are way, way, way down the line.

Totally agree with you this is all out war dont think we are high priority but i think they feel like we are betraying them.
If we are, too late to do anything about it now. Should've stopped Shannon being used years ago. If we stopped it tomorrow, it would make no difference at this stage.

There's a long history of difficulties between Christian/Muslin groups in Indonesia. There isn't in Ireland.

Bali was attacked for 2 reasons :
1) To hit Australians, in response to their support for the war. It's the main overseas holiday resort for Aussies.
2) Bali is a haven of religious tolerance/debauchery in a generally strict Muslim country. It stands out like a sore thumb in that regards.
To describe Islamic terrorists as "mentalists", who don't give a feck what they attack so long as they just blow something up - as if they are uncalculated and uncontrolled monsters - is to both underestimate and completely fail to understand them. They know exactly what they're doing when they bomb somewhere. Their targets are not chosen at random. The Western media is happy to portray them as mentallists, as that helps to villify them. The reality is that their targets are carefully chosen - primarily to attack certain Western nations because of their Foreign Policies, and also to attack their supporter nations - particularly 'traitor' Islamic ones.
