Unless...

We lose to Longford and Rovers
Rovers beat Cork and us
Waterford beat Drogheda
Rovers draw with Waterford and Waterford's goal difference improves/ours declines
Waterford beat Rovers

You'd be waiting longer for Waterford to win in Derry and Pat's to win in Cork with nine men.

It's a bit of a relief after the last few weeks - since we went out of both cups really - but you can't help but feel that the season's been a bit disappointing. We didn't even mount a serious challenge on the top half of the table, which has to be a target for next season. I think we've underperformed, to be honest. If we get the defence back working for next season, that should be worth a few points - hopefully spend more of next season nearer 6th and not have any of this relegation nonsense!

That said, we can now relax and enjoy the game against Rovers. Last day of the six seasons -
1999/00 - qualified for Europe
2000/01 - avoided automatic relegation/won play-off
2001/02 - finished sixth and safe.:)
2002/03 - avoided the play-off
2003 - relegated
2004 - missed out on title
2005 - nothing.:)

Was our injury situation worse this year than in previous seasons? It certainly seems like it was but I can't remember too much about previous years.

Well, the Allie Mac injury seemed to screw us over, and we haven't had a player retire through injury since Hanrahan. With either Allie and Robbie Mac, we'd have been able to leave Tony Mac in the mid, and it was noticeable in Donegal the difference he made there. Then Kenna, Paul Byrne, Hurley (x 2) - probably wasn't the best. Just as well we had feck all suspensions!

We started the season with a very respectable first string defense of
Mahon - Kenna - McNally - RobbieMac
Mahon's been mostly fit, but I doubt anyone would swap Micko for Robbie Mac at left back. Kenna and McNally's (medium term) injuries have come during our worst spell in the season. You can talk about motivation all you like, but I think that had as much to do with our slump as any number of cup defeats. I think we even started one game with
Gannon - Shortall - TonyMac - Micko
Compair with the above.

Yeah, I think we've had a much more settled defense in previous years.

My point was more that Robbie Mac would have filled in at centre-back when Kenna and Allie Mac were injured.

Tonight's result has confirmed that we're safe.:)

So all your worrying can end now CTID. There hasnt been a game gone by in the last few months where you havent been worried that we would get relegated  Now you can sit back and enjoy the next two games

When you don't win a game for three months that kind of thing happens....
