Kerr: It's funny

By Mark Buckingham - Created on 5 Nov 2005

Brian Kerr concedes he is still trying to come to terms with the fact he is no longer Republic of Ireland coach.

Following Ireland's failure to qualify for the World Cup finals, Kerr did not have his contract renewed by The Football Association of Ireland.

Kerr had also been unable to take his country to the 2004 European Championship and The FAI decided to act ahead of qualifying for the 2008 tournament.

But the feeling of no longer being in charge of his country is something that Kerr has not yet got used to.

He admits he still has ideas which he feels will help the Irish team before he realises it will be someone else's responsibility in the future.

"It's funny now," Kerr told Sky Sports News.

"I'm in the situation where I'm still watching matches and still watching some of our players playing.

"And my reaction is often 'I need to talk to them and tell them some little thing I have thought of that he can improve on'.

"Then I realise that's not my job anymore and they'll be someone else's players."
