Gone are the days of porn [or so I hear *ahem*] and in is Footie :)

Well actually this isn't a new story at all, its been there for a few years now, the whole team that previously worked @ Channel4 on a Sunday afternoon regularly show 3 or so live/delayed matches over the course of a weekend and Gazetta [one hour weekly roundup] is on Fri @ 8pm [bad time I know!]

Just thought I'd spark up convo on the subject, as Italian football is back in a big way again these days :)

Did you see the Internazionale - Roma midweek game a couple of weeks ago on Bravo. There were a rake of other televised games on that evening, including Real. Madrid - Valencia, but thankfully I chose this one. The game of the season so far in any league. When Italian football is at it's best, it is the best.

I haven't really been watching much Italian football but since I have Setanta and Bravo I might start following it again. Setanta/Bravo got the rights for 2 years with Setanta paying the majority so have better choice. They seem to both be picking the same matches though. The thing with Setanta is that they show SPL football at the same time the Italian football is on. There is only 1 match on live in the evening (this week Palermo v Sampdoria) but if the live match is not good enough they show full delayed coverage of another match from earlier.

Ah yes, James Richardson, the finest football presenter fronting the best football show on TV. What were Chanel 4 thinking of to let it go.

Setanta/Bravo is separate contract. Setanta for Ireland, Bravo for UK. They usuallly show the same game. I think they should show the live game regardless of who it is. Nothing worse than a full, delayed transmission game.

"Bravo is set to revive Football Italia after poaching the rights to Italian Serie A League football from British Eurosport.

The Flextech-owned broadcaster has teamed up with Irish broadcaster Setanta for a two-year deal, which will give Bravo the rights to screen the key matches on Sunday nights from 28 August.

It will also show a recorded mid-week match, an hour-long highlights programme and a weekly magazine show.

Setanta, which brokered the estimated £1m deal with rights holder Sport 5, will air the remaining games live on Setanta Sports 1 and 2 and on Setanta Ireland."

RTE 2 should never have stopped showing the Italian highlights package :(
