While Mick McCarthy will keep us guessing for one more day, Rudi Voeller has announced the German squad for the World Cup finals - a group of names which will carry no fears for the Irish team.

The Germans have already lost Mehmet Scholl and key defender Jens Nowotny through injury and doubts remain about Sebatsien Deisler - though the Herta star has been included.

Voeller, a World Cup winning striker himself in 1990, has indicated that his strike force will be Carsten Jancker and Oliver Bierhoff, both of whom have been less than convincing this season while veteran Martin Max managed to top the scoring charts.

Max was the leading scorer in the Bundesliga for the second time in three years but this has not impressed the German boss who said: "There's a big difference between national and international," he said.

Germany squad:

Goalkeepers: Oliver Kahn (Bayern Munich), Jens Lehmann (Dortmund), Hans-Jorg Butt (Leverkusen)

Defenders: Thomas Linke (Bayern Munich), Sebastian Kehl, Christian Worns, Christoph Metzelder, Jorg Heinrich (all Dortmund), Marko Rehmer (Hertha Berlin), Christian Ziege (Tottenham)

Midfielders: Michael Ballack, Carsten Ramelow, Bernd Schneider (all Leverkusen), Dietmar Hamann (Liverpool), Jens Jeremies (Bayern Munich), Torsten Frings (Werder Bremen), Sebastian Deissler (Hertha Berlin)

Strikers: Gerald Asamoah (Schalke 04), Marco Bode (Werder Bremen), Oliver Bierhoff (Monaco), Miroslav Klose (Kaiserslautern), Oliver Neuville (Leverkusen), Carsten Jancker (Bayern Munich)

Bit on the arrogant side that, isn't it. I mean it's a pretty average looking squad, but so is ours! They should be beatable though, particularly if they lose Deisler.
