Yup, good news. Chorus will be none to happy that their biggest selling point has now gone FTA over satellite. Along with BBC1-4 and the other fta channels on 28east there is a decent amount of sub free viewing there now.

Hopefully the UK Freesat is a success and the Channel 4 stable go FTA too (a public service broadcaster afterall).

TV3 should go FTA now imo. All their content will be available FTA on ITV so they may as well take the opportunity to follow suit. Give the large parts of this country that can't get now the chance to recieve it, plus cash in on the UK market for Irish news. It would also put pressure on RTE to at least make RTE1 available FTA too (simple move the contentious rights programmes to RTE2 - which most of it is anyway certainly the sport). Is Ireland the only country in Europe where you have to pay a sub for any of the channels in digital quality?

A nice range of FTA stuff at 28.2 now - certainly for people who want just a few extra channels there's certainly no need for a subscription.

Absolutely. I was happy with having the BBC's, but getting ITV is a nice bonus.

Since I setup my motorised system a few years back it is amazing to see how many fta channels there are from germany. No wonder pay tv takeup there is so minimal.

Yeah, although wouldn't be without Five for CSI, so the FTV card will be staying for the time being. However, don't think i'll bother when it needs renewing.

Definitely next on my list is a Sat PC card to use it as a second telly and pvr. Was waiting for ITV to go, so todays developments have bumped it up the list. Just have to decide which one, and work out how it'll work with my terrestrial card.

I still have the four Irish channels on rabbit ears. There's plenty of CSI, law & order and the like on RTE2 and TV3.

I was given the complete sky package for free, so I haven't spent anything yet, bar a few bolts etc. I may invest in a budget 'lidl-style' fta box, if only to get away from this 'other channels' thing on a sky box. It'd be nice to have the channels you want where you want, and not an epg clogged up with channels I don't receive/want

I dont bother with sky at all, having your own non dodgybox for fta stuff is handy imho.

Far prefer the non dodgyboxes - had a straight FTA box before. Only went dodgybox when the FTV cards became available again - plenty of UK contacts so it only cost me the stg£20.

I want the PC card for the second telly, and am looking for a FTA box with a number display for radio in a room without a TV. 5 live, BBC7 etc etc.

Is it actually in with all the rest of the channels from today or do you still have to follow the steps on that link?

I'm presuming you sub to sky. I haven't been home yet to try, but AFAIK some will be on the epg, some you'll have to add to other channels. Same as BBC.

Sweet, for once i wasn't forced to watch Liverpool on TV3 with Packie Personality and Trev the Red.
ITV is the business.
Had them tuned in already and hey presto here they are.
Channel 4 next and we're sorted.

Dont hold your breath for C4, they are in a contract with $ky till end of 2008 afaik for use of the encryption.

Don't hold your breath for channel 4. Their contract with sky runs to 2008, same as RTE. Or so I'm told.

Having BBC and ITV is great though. It was a novelty being able to choose between two matches without going near TV3. ITV4 should be a handy channel.

If you have a digibox, you'll have most of these anyway.

Good old countdown, all the mispent afternoons watching it instead of going to lectures! At least it was of a slight educational merit.

Correct about the contract, however, good chance they'll go then considering they're a state owned PSB. btw they're currently getting hammered for advertising More4 as a free digital channel when it's only free on DTT.

I read that alright about More4, misleading in the description. NO doubht about it I cant see them renewing the deal with rupey after it lapses.
