I've already said I don't think any comparisons are legitimate ...and I'm not even a Beatles fan. (Who and Hendrix were always my 60's bands).

It's as daft as comparing the relative merits of Bayern Munich and Harchester United.

It's as pointless as comparing the in and outs of Football with Wrestlemania or WWF or smackdown or whatever other garbage-tag they put on it these days.

If Westlife and their kind are to be compared with other entertainers then it should be with The Osmonds, Brotherhood of Man and other such... um ...artists.:o

Crazy talk because you like the Beatles but don't like Westlife. You may need to consider that just because that's your preference, someone who prefers the opposite isn't wrong, just has a different opinion to you.

I can't see anything significant about the Beatles and therefore hold them with less regard than Westlife. Simply because, they don't entertain me.

Never said I didn't like Westlife, I think what they do they do well - they pick well written songs and perform them well.....they record and produce songs to hit today's type market that they are trying to sell to!

If you read post #73 you'll see I have an appreciation for the art of song writing and artists who can sing a song, and I don't mean just hit a note, i mean deliver a song; this is quite a step up from just holding a tune!

The Beatles were far more talented though. Fact, end of. That's not an argument that needs to be made. It is simply as plain as day! To put that into a footballing context for you; it's like comparing Brazil of the '70s to a mid table Premiership side and i'm sure you wouldn't need to see an argument put forward for the obvious there......would you?!

Which one you prefer though is your opinion sure, but I KNOW which is better!

Just about to post something similar.......have just come back to this thread after a few days and can't believe how it's evolved into a Westlife v's Beatles discussion....it's all crazy talk:confused: :D

It didn't evolve into that, Peadar just dumped it in out of the blue. Up to that no-one mentioned the Beatles

(must check the definition of trolling again)

In the same way that monkeys and dinosaurs roamed the earth, then God plonked humans on it, and we all evolved from there.
Up to Peadar's post there was no mention of the Beatles, then BAM!, it's all Adam'n'Eveing all over the place, and all the monkeys are like'wtf?' and 5hit...

Is Westlife topping the charts, Sligo Rovers winning the First Division title, and Tabby Callaghan on the crest of something an indicator that the North West is where it's at? :(

Irish boy band Westlife got the festive shopping season underway in central London on Tuesday when they turned on the famous Christmas lights in Oxford Street.

The four-member group, who boast a string of chart-topping singles including a Christmas number one, switched on the dazzling display featuring 260,000 bulbs and performed two of their hits.

"We never dreamed we'd be turning on the Oxford Street Christmas lights -- it's a major honour," " the band's Kian Egan told the BBC.
The switch-on marked the culmination of the Light Up London campaign which invited people to sponsor a bulb with a minimum 5 pound donation for charity.

The Breast Cancer Campaign, Great Ormond Street Hospital Children's Charity and Centrepoint, which helps homeless young people, will benefit from the funds raised.

I doubt you would have the same attitude towards other boybands as you do towards Westlife so yours is hardly an objective opinion!
They dont get credit off most Irish people because most Irish people think their music is ****e , you can go on about how much they do for the country and all that but when it comes down to it they are "musicians" not tourist board representitives and as such should be judged on their music!

SB ... I'm perfectly calm. I didn't resurrect a topic that had been lying idle for 13 months. That's not swiping at Sligoman ...just pointing out I've no great axe to grind here.

its a music band who are good at what they do! Subjective. I don't believe they even qualify as a "band" -a band being a collective of musicians playing in concert in my book*. They could be more accurately described as a "male vocal and dance revue".

The amount of records they sell or money they make is of no consequence to me. If anyone else wants to celebrate it ...party your balls off and good luck to you.

I didn't "slag" them off anywhere I can find. I might have taken them to task on a few bits but y'know this is a big boys site the last time I checked.

If you'd like to read posts somewhere they aren't getting a well earned verbal kicking might I suggest their website (though last time I checked ...admittedly about 4 years ago ...you'd to pay to see anything substantial beyond banner ads.)

*...that's not just having a go at their inability to play instruments. I would consider, for example, The Flying Pickets to be a band ...if that seems inconsistent well I'll say it's better to be supple as a willow than rigid as the cedar.

I've deleted the two worst posts in this thread. I'll delete more if it continues, then I'll lock it, then I'll start banning people.

On the subject in general, please tone down the rhetoric, all of ye. I don't have a problem with commentary on the band or their "music" in general - personally I find the entire boy band phenomena sickening, and this crowd in particular vomit-inducing - but the personal comments are over the top in my opinion. Yes, the people involved put themselves in the public eye and have no right to complain about commentary, but some of the stuff being said is just plain nasty in this format, no matter what their character. Save it for the pub please.
