Downloaded it yesterday. Fabulous stuff. We will be sorely missed at Germany '06.:(

They were great times. There was wonderful excitement in the country during the Summer of 1990.

Mind you, looking back on the two goals we scored in the 5 games we played, it was ugly football. Big long punts by Packie and bang a goal.

Jesus watching that really sent a shiver down my spine, wonder will we ever experience anything closde to that ever again. One of my favourite parts of that is the auld fella cryin in it, just shows what it meant to people back then. Post celtic tiger Ireland is a crock a sh!t if you ask me, I was twice as happy when I hadn't an arse in me trousers.

God I was about 11 at that time but I remember it well. Just all the footage and the music brings it all back. True we played ugly football, but it was amazing for the country to do so well. The whole country went mad, why not? Ireland in a world cup!!! If only we had beaten Italy...but they did well, and the smirk on the Pope's face, he was rooting for us :D
There was not the same expectation on Ireland to do well as there is now.
Ah God I am depressed again about not being in Germany 06....

Great to watch though....

Setanta showed the full Ireland v England match today and I watched it. The football wasn't as bad as being suggested. We even had 52% possession. :)

Damn I need to get Setanta TV in the US. Would love to have seen that match again.

I was 15 when it all happened. Worked in the Yacht in Clontarf for the Egypt match. It did mean a lot more back then. Ireland was a damn sight poorer and, dare I say, a somewhat depressing place to be. They lifted the entire country. I felt safe even on the northside just by wearing an Ireland jersey.

Was at that game. We were based in Sicily for the tournament and flew in for the game. The coach stopped off at a roadside cafe by a beach and all the fans gots off to be greeted by hundreds of other fans strolling along the beach as we counted the hours.

Match itself - weather turned nasty and we got all very wet. English fans ignorant and arrogant. Very poor game but we reduced a team of John Barnes, Beardsley, Gascoigne, Lineker etc to just a couple of shots at goal. Very lucky that the Sheedy goal wasn't ruled out for offside by Alan McLoughlin. Magic goal though. Boy did we enjoy ourselves after that goal. Sing song on the bus on the way back to the airport led by Kevin Moran's brother.

If you combine that team (Bonner, Morris, McCarthy, Moran, Staunton, McGrath, Townsend, Houghton, Aldridge, Cascarino, Sheedy) with the present you'd probably get: Given, Staunton, Cunningham, McGrath, Finnan, Townsend, Keane, Duff, Keane, Aldridge, Houghton.

C'est cera cera :(

I dunno, you have Houghton and Moran missing out there. Two rocks of Irish football history.

I don't think you can compare the teams to be honest.

Considering the team we had at Italia 90 though it is kind of strange that our only tactic invloved Packie bombing it up the pitch. That goal against Holland is probably the ugliest in football history. :D

Houghton is there - one of my all time favourite Irish players.

No extra points for scoring pretty goals - we scored one of best ever goals in USA '94 (Aldridge header after about 14 passes but no points as lost to Mexico).

Oh god, now Im so depressed about next summer.
Seeing that makes ya realise how much we'll be missing out.
Although 90 was the most special, any World cup summer we've being involved in has being incredible.

Was it a slam-dunk penalty when Moran fouled Waddle? It was right underneath me & I thought it was a penno. Then Waddle got up & we all shouted "Cheat, cheat, cheat..." even though we were all sure it was a foul.

The journey from Sicily to Sardinia was a 'mare. 8 hours on a bloody catamaran with a storm in the air. Seasick wasn't the word. The trip brochure said it was 2 hours!

Didn't Charlton openly admit that the main reason he chose Bonner over Gerry Peyton was his ability to kick a football well into the opposition half?
