New Asterix book pokes fun at US

Asterix illustrator Albert Uderzo introduced the character in 1959
More than eight million copies of the new Asterix book have gone on sale in 27 countries - and the comic series is getting political for the first time.
Asterix and the Falling Sky is the 33rd book and the first for four years.

Illustrator Albert Uderzo introduces aliens from a planet called Tadsylwine, an anagram of Walt Disney, with a leader called Hubs, an anagram of Bush.

The original Asterix & Obelix & the Tintin comics barely tried to hide their racist undertones.
Tintin in Africa was actually banned originally i think.
Then again, that was in the times of French imperialism.

Uhm, wasn't Tintin Belgian, or at least written by a Belgian (Hergé I think, or was that the Smurfs?). Not to discredit your point, which is valid anyway, seeing as "poor little Belgium" had a fairly large empire in Africa at the time.

yeah Hergé was belgian alright.. some of the early books were a tad racist, and were a tad colonial in their leanings, but i think that later on Herge went back and changed them for later editions, at the request of the publisher i think.

asterix was full of sterotypes, but thats what made it funny i think

Correct.
Studied course in french comics for me degree and they tend to bang all the 'francophone' ones together.
