Brian Kerrs contract should not be renewed.
Kerr is not a people manager; he is a Technician.
Ireland will never have a world class side in terms of ability - but the role of manager is vital to the Irish Team to get the team to play above their abilities. Charlton and McCarthy could do that to a greater or lesser extent. Brian Kerr showed that he could not take care of this aspect of the job which ended up turning an average team into a below average team - a team who began to fear and not believe in themselves.
He undoubtedly is knowledgeable, steeped in the Irish game, hard working and has given 100% - but that has not been enough.

I flew back to Frankfurt this morning and sat beside the Swiss team and got talking to some of them (they were the players returning to play in Germany and Italy). I was told that they were surprised at how conservative we played it last night given that we had to win. This conservatism also cost us dear. The spirit of "Give it a lash" was no more.
Finally Kerr's team selection left a lot to desire at times.

Give someone else a chance I say. No guarantees though that someone else can do any better.

Signed

Even though i would be a Kerr fan and think him staying might not be the worst option, but why in the last quarter of the Swiss match why did he pull off two strikers for two others! I know Keane and Morrisson were not playing the best but the term "caution to the wind" springs to mind....

Yes - seemingly that was the first flight out of Dublin yesterday and they were flying onwards from Frankfurt.
What was interesting - having seen these "impenetrable" giants on the field the previous evening, then to see a bunch of hung-over (they said that they had a late night), slight looking young fellows.

Many Germans commiserating with me that the Irish fans - not to mind the team - will not be there next June.
Why don't they just give the team with the best fans in the world an automatic place in the Finals!
