Since AlanF developed the Conway Sister's website, isn't his post above just spam when you get right down to it?

Whatever you like to class it as it's inappropriate I'd say. It's your board and as you've already told him -I'm sure you've a rate card if he'd like to place ads.

The fact that it was only his 6th or 7th post made it particularly crass I thought.

I know there's a few people on here who play or have played in bands, myself included, and I wouldn't dream of posting anything like Alans. Outside of there being a dedicated "plug your band" sub-forum in the music thread (which IMO would quickly desend into an unreadable farce) it just strikes me as inappropriate to be plugging stuff on a board.

First of all I want to apologies for my actions that have caused such a stir, but I would also like to defend myself now, seeing that I was refused the right to do so for a number of days due to a ban imposed by the Site Admin.

For those who do not know what the as the Site Admin termed it “Promotional tripe deleted. If you'd like to run an ad, contact me for rates. –adam”

I was providing images which could be printed off by people who were willing to do so to try and promote four young girls who are the only Republic of Ireland entry in a talent show in the UK. If I had a budget I would do as the Site Admin asked, but well these girls are just starting out.

The Site Admin also accused me of Trolling and subsequently banned me.

In Internet terminology, a troll is a person who posts inflammatory messages on the internet, such as on online discussion forums, to disrupt the discussion or to upset its participants. The word, or its derivative, "trolling", is also used to describe such messages or the act of posting them.
(This is the definition of Trolling used by this site as imdicated by the Site Admin)

Okay so I was banned for a time for the above, but I am sure that people will see from reading the posts that this is not the real reason for banning me, it was just an excuse. But make up your own minds here.

I did not post inflammatory messages, I mearly responded to posts that could be inturperated as inflammatory. I am sure that you will see if you take the time, see that most of the inflammatory messages came from members and moderators of this site and were directed at either myself, or the four girls I came here to ask members of the site to support. Again make up your own minds.

I am also accused of SPAMMING, maybe so, but on a Notice Board such as this, I have noticed other posts which are more likely to be classified as SPAM than my original post, simply because they are looking for people to buy something. My Post was to ask people to support the only Act from the Republic of Ireland in a showcase Talent Competition in the UK. No one was asked to part with money or buy a product, just to support these girls if they wanted to. If this is SPAMMING then I am guilty as charged and apologise, but I do not think that what I did is in anyway controveling any Site or Internet Rules.

If what I did was intentional SPAMMING why did I only post it in the Off Topic section, and not in every section, simply because I was trying to abide by the rules of this web site.

Finally in relation to SPAM, SPAM to one person may not be SPAM to another.

I have also being accused of promoting “My Product”, incorrect, I am just a friend of the family and I happen to like what the girls are trying to do and I am supporting them in what ever way I can.
I do not receive any renumeration for what I do in relation to the girls. I do it mainly because they are from Sligo, just like I hosted the Rovers Forum for a while Free Of Charge.

What I have tried to do is to promote everything to do with Sligo.

So to sum up, I again apologise for my reaction to remarks made by members of this Forum, but I do feel that I have being treated unfairly and discriminated against.

From this point on I will not be replying to this or any other posts placed on this Forum, nor will I post any new items to this site which will please a number of the site members.

The final word from me is, I have a passion for my Home Town of Sligo, in this regard I wear my heart on my sleve. The Conway Sisters have a Passion for their Music. I am not looking for sympathy, I just want people to understand that something I believe in and support was attacked unjustly, of course I was going to retaliate, just the way people would retaliate if the club they supported was being ridiculed by someone who knew nothing about the club.

The people who use this site have a Passion for Football, so I thought that people here would understand. This was an error in judgement for me, and I have being made out to be a fool, a SPAMMER, as well as other choice reference which have made me out to be something I am not.

I would ask for people not to respond to this post as this has gone on too long and has being blown totally out of proportion. For people who may agree with me, if I were you I would keep silent, but for the people who disagree with me I would ask you to respect my views, they are not intended to offend.

Here's the deal Alan: If you want to post about football, post about football. But you may not, under any circumstances, post anything promotional again; regardless of the profit status of the item. I consider it spam, and my consideration is all that counts. If you ignore this rule - it's always been a rule on Foot.ie - you will be banned permanently from the site.
