Greetings to all from Limassol. Interesting city where you can still use the old ring dial telephones, see cars from 1975-1985 going up and down the promenade, weather is lovely, a number of Irish flags hanging form balcony apartments, the Keo (a local beer) is nice and I tried a Meze (a Greek meal consisting of 25 courses including squid, octupus and horsemeat) and it was beautiful, served from a tavernas in a side street. The pub to go to is Tipsy's. It is tiny but there are Irish working in it. I was in The Blarney Stone and the Woodhouse. One interesting flag read Jambo Jambo Zamunda Supporter and Buddies on Tour!!! and it is hanging over the Eden Beach Apartments. Weather is lovely and the sea is nice and warm but pretty salty. Cyprus would probably be like Ireland about twenty years ago.

What - the sea is salty in Cyprus??? I never would have guessed.

Cyrpus like Ireland is a comparison I've never heard before either - do they have their own version of Charlie Haughey then and the bad weather.

Don't worry I'm only bitter and jealous cause I'm sitting at my desk in Ireland.

Anyone see the Doc's interview. He's looking for "3 pts minimum" from Saturday's game. Didn't think there were bonus points available :D

Glad to see Kerr back in front of a microphone but only saw a snippet of the interview. Something about not relying on the Faroes to do us a favour against Israel. Israel don't count for us do they ?

Not really, everyone expects Israel to beat the Faroes and finish on 18 points, which will mean we have to win both to finish second.

Yes I suppose we can laugh but at least the players seem determined to win which I was pleased about from the interview, with both him and Andy O'Brien.

There is a higher concentration of salt in the Eastern Mediterranean than there is in any bay around Ireland.

Sea is saltier than in Ireland. Don't know anything about local politics, so I cannot answer the Charlie Haughey dig. Didn't see any bad weather. Most of their rain comes in the winter months and it is still sparse. Lots of sunshine.

Just read this Thunderblaster.

There were lots of 'pimp my ride' style cars zooming up and down the main drag in Limassol alright, but fairly harsh to describe them as being 20-30yrs old. The majority of cars in Cyprus are recent and in good shape - not much different than in Irish cities to be honest.

Also - the horse meat Meze beat is just ballax, as you know...... :)

As for the Keo - a good tipple indeed, though sadly a bit on the fizzy side. Did you try the 'Brandy Sours' ?

Is that one of the local shorts that you knock back from a split glass? Looks like brandy or whiskey and it cut through my chest. Tried a fat frog lookalike cocktail out there.

No - Brandy Sour is a mixer drink. Comes in a half-pint size glass. Was never keen on it myself, but my mates were all big fans of it since the 2001 ROI trip.

God knows what that shot you had was !

Definitely did not have the Brandy Sour then.

What did you think of the local accommodation? I stayed in the Eden Beach Apts and I'd admit it was not the best of places. It was a skanky, crumbling, antiquated building that was apparently not upgraded since 1972.:( However, the bedrooms were clean.
