Looks like Derry have names a strong team to try to put a marker down early.
Decent team out from Rovers without being probably as strong as Derry on the face of it
Will be interesting to see James McClean in action again

Decent game so far, ozviuna(sorry)best for rovers, and Derry with good performers all over the place. If Josh Thomas had a bit of awareness he’d be brilliant, very good watch but for the sake of the image on tv, ffs put the away crowd in the unopened south stand?

Agree about Thomas. Very useful for outballs, if there was a bit composure he'd be great.
Still, though. Can't complain. Happy with how Derry looked and with both the President's Cup and the Billy Kee Memorial Cup in the bag, that's half of the quadruple already done.

That's the North Stand Dermo.
Derry went for it and deserved the win. We never really got going and treated it as a pure preseason game. Interesting to see McClean playing centre mid and demanding corners off Duffy., most of which were awful. The subplot of hometown hero vs hometown hero will be fun.
Derry looked very good defensively which isn't what I expected but we also didn't really ask many questions. They should have won by more in the end all the same. Markey was impressive as always. Wonder will he end up having a bigger impact than some of the higher earners they've brought in.

North stand yes mate, of course.
Yeah rovers seemed to lay back a bit first half, Derry though were impressive enough especially with so many new faces.
Agree who ever decided McLean is better at set pieces than Duffy , ****in hell that’s a weird call!!
Did think o reilly killed a bit of momentum for them, for rovers for me anyway the young lads were the most impressive, Brennan was very good.

Looked to me like McClean decided it. Wonder did he decide to play centre mid as well
Yeah thought Victor, Max, Brennan and Cory all did well. If Cory was 3 inches taller he'd be long gone. Would probably make a fantastic left full but isn't quite big enough for CB or quick enough for LWB. Our system sort of holds him back. Just a bit patchwork overall from us. Never really clicked. But on that evidence Derry will make a run at it. They have good players all over the pitch and stength on the bench to keep going.

Probably decent for a cold January night and a fixture which doesn't really have the appeal it could/should?
10yrs ago that would've been considered a great crowd for any LOI game btw.

Pretty good for a pre-season friendly in this weather. Sure you couldn't fit them in Dalymount.

Thought the atmosphere in Tallaght was surprisingly flat this evening but again cold and the weather had been brutal all week.
No Catherine Connolly either (?)

The flaw with the 'President's' Cup is that most presidents probably won't care all that much about it. It was very much a pet initiative for Higgins.
I wonder if it even features on the list of engagements for her staff to arrange? I wouldn't be surprised if the FAI don't even think about telling them/letting them know.

Both the men's and women's participants were in the Aras for presentations with her earlier this week.
Have the Derry made their statement of intend to Rovers for 2026! 🤔
