I'm a bit uncomfortable with the quality that's leaving Derry. I suppose that's an inevitable part of upgrading your squad, though. You want better players, that letting go of good players to get better ones still means letting go of good players.
Other than Benson, I don't think we've lost much quality.
Do you mean Todd? He improved recently, but there's a reason we shipped him off to Larne last year, I haven't changed my mind on him.

Dundalk are expected to announce that deals have been completed for Kerry FC midfielder Ronan Teahan and Bray Wanderers defender Harvey Warren.

And compensation due to be paid to Kerry also I think for Teahan..................'tis a great aul league'

Which is odd, given he's a free agent come Sunday?

Todd and Doherty both. Diallo too, if/when he goes. And I suppose Mullen to an extent. Maybe not world beaters, but useful players.

The compensation referred to isn’t a transfer fee, it’s a training compensation fee that is due even though he’s going to be a free agent.

So basically, for anyone who graduates from their club's Academy to the senior team, then.

Signing young lads from the first division is an interesting way of approaching a likely relegation battle.

Probably shows where the budget is. Hopefully we can get a sprinkling of experienced players in too or could be a short stay in premier league.
Thankfully a lot more decent free agents available than there was in our last few transfer windows in the league. Very possible we won't need to rely on six or seven random players from the UK that nobody at the club has ever seen play.

Looks like it could be between galway and dundalk, unless galway redress the exodus from ED park.

There's a lot of work to do. The proposed Mountain South training complex near Athenry has been rejected, and now a dozen players have left. Not great to say the least. Entire squad rebuilds are nothing new in the LOI of course, but there's been a semblance of stability amongst most clubs of retaining a core of players for 2+ years these days, ourselves included these last 2-3 seasons, so it's disappointing that we find ourselves back to square one. Moses Dyer and was a big scouting hit, so you never know. But there's no getting away from how hard it is to knit a ragtag bunch of lads together from all over the place to combine into a gelled unit.

Wasiri Williams who was on loan at Dundalk for the first half of 2023 has signed for Galway, having last played in the Latvian league this year. Galway are his 16th (sixteenth!) club in 7 years
That's something i think Pat's need to adress as well
Indeed. Though I was surprised to hear a stat that we had the best defensive record in the Premier last season. We had a fair few 0-0 draws though, which ultimately cost us a European spot.

Yeah , i think in midfield and attack we had a lot of neat and tidy players but lacked a bit of physical presence and power.

Must be substance to the Gary O'Neill rumours, if Sylvester Hennessy is reporting of interest in today's Kerry's Eye.

Can imagine Stevens slotting in quite well at Rovers, though it's not exactly the injection of fresh legs into their backline that some have been calling for.

Enda Stevens will be competing for LWB position with Victor Ozhianvuna, assuming Josh goes as well as Trevor Clarke and Sean Kavanagh, and will provide cover at LCB. Makes sense in that context to have both experience and youth in one position.

Not to forget also we will be without Pico for his world cup campaign with Cape Verde so we will need extra cover.

Seems to have played regularly until July, going by FAI Connect, but fell out of favour between then and season's end.

Possibly. The rumour mill during the week was Vincent Borden and Gary O'Neill joining Kerry. One of those was accurate anyway.

Jack Byrne going back to Tallaght, according to Bradley.
In other words, they couldn't get anyone else to pay similar mad wages and take him off their hands.
Such a waste of a talent.

Funnily enough, he was wanted by derry but flatly turned down the offer.
He has a talent for sure, but a few rocks in his head ( who doesn't eh!), so we'll see what comes of it. Bradley demonstrated last season that he won't put up with his nonsense if he decides to act up, and he has a year left on his contract.
If Mandriou wasn't out long term I wonder if he would have been welcomed back so warmly.

Yeah id say its a case of a bit of both, no one prepared to pay all his wages and the club not seeing much point in having to partially pay him to play for someone else when Mandroiu is out.
Either way ill be glad to see him back and hopefully he will play well considering he only has one year left and needs a new contract from someone at the end of the season.
I hope he takes the high road rather than turning into one of these guys jumping around crap clubs for a payday

He's under contract so has to return in January. Whether he'll stay is another matter but Danny M's injury has probably changed things. Would much prefer to spend that money elsewhere but as always will trust Bradley to make the correct decisions.
