The conspiracy theory that Foot.ie was closed down to save Bohs supporters having to discuss the goal of the season last weekend and congratulate Rovers winning the title tonight is no more. :)

What a weekend ahead with every single match its own cup final for both teams with the exception of Cork who have an actual one to play for places in.
It would be a brave man to call it but i thnk Waterford are favs for 9th with Galway showing a bit of form.

I watched the Bray UCD match last night and i dont think the 9th place side has a lot to worry about , might be another 3 nil like last year.
Ill be at the Rovers match obviously but will be a fascinating Saturday

Drogheda/Bohs should be some clash. Not hard to see a draw there, and also a draw at Tolka, which I think I'm right in saying would see Pats get fourth. Shels safe in third, so they may not have the same intentsity that you'd normally expect. If Pats were playing better I'd fancy us to win, but we're a hard team to have confidence in these days. Poor season all around, and if we do get europe we can consider ourselves fortunate.

Premier League title wrapped up. Congratulations to Shamrock Rovers! Cracking free kick.

3 way battle coming up on Saturday to avoid the playoff.

Congrats to Rovers. I thought that by playing all through last winter that they would fade away this season but fair play to them to be going for the double.

The pressure is on Waterford on Saturday, they have to win so will really have to go for it. A draw will be enough for us.

Surprised they picked Drogs / Bohs for TV. Chance it just ends up as both teams being mid table.

Shams are front page of the Independent this morning. That's another nice little marker of national recognition for our League. Well done to Rovers though,5 in 6 is remarkable in the modern era. We gave it a good go last night but in truth Rovers could have won 3 or 4 nil. Burke missed a number of chancers you'd expect him to bury. Dylan Watts waited all year to score a goal, and then does that. Cracking free kick. Good crowd in Tallaght too, 6 or 7K by the looks of it. All down to the Waterford game now.

We are something like 0 from 18 under Russell in Tallaght.

The more things change the more they stay the same.
Champions again ole ole.😄☘️.

Rovers team on Saturday will be mostly reserve players I'd hope, as we have 2 massive games coming up next week.

Personally hope (a) Galway stay up and (b) Drogs get 4th.

We have two huge games Thursday evening and Sunday so really it should be something like##

McGinty
Barrett, Kavanagh, C O sullivan, Vassenin, Cal Honohan

J O Sullivan, Matt Britton, Max Kovelevski, Clarke

John McGovern

It would be crazy to have any of what you would call first teamers play Saturday in a meaningless match for us.
Look at Honohan coming off injured last night , that could happen Saturday to Burke or Gaffney, Pico anyone.

Unfortunately I can't see us getting anything other than a point against Galway, they are stubborn and we are toothless! if anything I think Galway will win the match, but Matt Lawlor has been decent with his tactical awareness, if we're lucky..

I think Sligo will fancy themselves in Tallaght now that Shams won't need to bother with the game.

I watched the play-off matches and I wasn't feeling threatened by what I saw from all four sides, the quality really isn't very good in the first division of late, all decent teams with very little flair or technique.

You are right, on paper it should be a formality for Waterford (or whomever) winning the playoff but at the same time the 1st Division side will hope that this is exactly what the PD side is thinking. Bray are the side that I thought was the best other side we played. They have play-off experience too if they beat Treaty. Its a free hit then. It would be a shock but its not uncommon for the 1st Divisions side being promoted.

I thought Bray were very poor anytime they played Dundalk (although I missed the 1st game in Oriel).

Dundalk could have won second away game that they lost by 4 or 5 if they took their chances. We carved Bray open numerous times - although O'Neil skint Sean Keogh horrendously in the 1st half. The final meeting between Dundalk and Bray was a complete non-event for a game that Brays needed to win to compete for the league. They never showed up, and Dundalk never even have to go up a gear to win easily.

I think Bray is a very unbalanced team - They definitely have match winners and talent scattered across their squad, but they can also lose games very easily too.

I would have thought UCD would have came through the play-offs, so I guess what do I know.

Drogheda as a club have completely lost their heads in this game.

Drogheda have only finished in the top half of the league once since they league in 2007.

Terrible season for Pat's. Would have thought they'd finish in the top 2 or 3 after last year's strong finish. Finishing 5th and out of Europe. Not good.

Thought Bohs deserved their win and they would have won it without the sending off. Mountney should have been sent off but that's the refs decision and it's the kind of decision that went against us several times this year. Every time Tierney got the ball he was kicked , dragged, hauled and mauled to the ground and he just got up and tortured them again. Hopefully our arch rivals will do the business next week and we'll be in Europe. Overall a good season and probably should have finished a place or two higher. If we had been offered 4th at the start of the season I would gladly have taken it

John Caulfield should thank Stephen Walsh for saving his skin this season…Walsh didn’t feature for most of the season… journeymen took his place for some reason…by he came good in the end.. JC should be very grateful

With Derry getting second and potential Europa League (Cork obvs of they win next week)
If they lose in the Europa League do they drop down to Conferences League qualifiers then?

Watched the Drogheda Bohs game until they went to 10 men and switched over to Tolka then
The Mountany decision was a disgrace and it's just not good enough by the officials

From the last 10/15 mins in Tolka, Pats didn't even look like a team who wanted to try score never mind needed to score

A really good finish to the season from Galway, to secure 8th position. 2 wins, 2 draws and very unlucky loss in Tallaght on Wednesday(the free from which the goal came from was a real Dublin hometown decision). The players give a huge effort in every match and we have been unfortunate with the injuries to Hickey and Keohane, and the loss of M Dyer and C Byrne mid-season, so they and staff deserve great credit.
I went to watch the Bray v UCD game on Tuesday, great crowd and atmosphere there, and considering they finished well ahead of Treaty, I would think that Waterford are likely to still stay up. However the Waterford comm team on LoI tv pointed out their poor record in play-offs.

Nothing more than Pats deserved from the season. Funnily enough they finish the season with the least goals conceded in the league and the most clean sheets also, but today summed up the year well. Never really looked like scoring bar a chance or two from set pieces in what was their 8th 0-0 draw of the season. Looked really clueless in how to break teams down this year

A loss as expected tonight but mission accomplished in terms of no injuries to the few first teamers who played a part tonight.
At least if we lose the cup final there is a bright side :)
I presume there will be a specific Bohs section in the Aviva so they can come and support.

Glad Galway stayed up, and i echo what Wonder88 has said. Losing Hickey for what felt like 2-3 months was a major blow. The Caulfield 'Wimbledon 1990' football actually suited him perfectly, but without him, and keohane to a lesser degree, we were useless for long stretches. Thanking the stars that Stephen Walsh and Brendan Clarke aged like fine wine. How crucial they have been, especially lately when we needed goals scored and goals kept out. Glad the season is over though. Another low scoring year all round. Will we ever see a player score 20 again? The 5th highest scorer (Moses Dyer) left 6 months ago, having got 10. The fact that a team in Cambodia had deeper pockets than Galway shows that the league is still a long way from being economically viable for the smaller sides.

Waterford will be in the play off final for the 4th time in 5 years. We pushed hard for the win yesterday especially in 2nd half but Galway defended well and held on for the draw they needed.
Padraig Amond wins the golden boot after his goal yesterday which is a good achievement at his age and in a team that finished 2nd bottom.

Those Galway fans laughing at our impending relegation earlier in the season aren't so cherpy this morning.

21st consecutive season in the Premier next season, only Bohs and Pats are longer. Plus no play offs in that time. An achievement of sorts I guess.

If anything ye deserve great credit. This one did feel like it was done and dusted for ye early on at several points, but the last 2-3 months have been incredible in terms of results and momentum.

To be fair, I think most are just relieved this season is over. I'd be a bit embarrassed if our fans were chirpy and wildly celebrating staying up like Sligo fans. This has turned out to be a poor season for us, and staying up isn't something that should be celebrated.

We've won enough trophies over the years to know what celebrating feels like. And that wasnt celebrating, more a release after a long season.

You wouldn't think it with the reactions after yesterday's game, suppose differing opinions on what a good season is at both clubs. For us staying up being the absolute bare minimum that would be acceptable and not something to be going mad over. Congrats Sligo.

Interesting last round of games, I kind of called it that Waterford would end up in play off, huge shift by Sligo beating Rovers away, then Bohs with that big win over Drogs to seal 4th.

The most unusual hoping for Rovers to win for the first time ever, then again Cork C won't care about any of this, can't see it myself, but you never know, Dundalk were relegated week before 2002 cup final, and up against Bohs under SK going for the double, we won 2-1, then again a dark 7 years or so followed on.

Not sure what's going on at Pats, with such a strong finish to 2024 I was expecting them to be top 3 min this year, Kelleher won't be happy with 5th and no Europe that's for sure.

Finally, Drogs are in the unfortunate spot of the only team ever to have missed out on Europe twice in the same season, but seems they can have no complaints with that performance yesterday.
