GALWAY UNITED: Another club in the same situation as Cork City

KILDARE COUNTY; Have no women's team as such. But host club Newbridge Town do.

KILKENNY CITY: Do not have a women's team in spite of their being a vibrant Women's League in the County. Evergreen the leading Non-League soccer club in the city have the most successful team in the Women's League down there.

LIMERICK F.C. Had a strong women's team for a couple of seasons in the late 1990's which didn't last long. A strong League based in the city and surrounding areas including teams from North Kerry, North Tipperary, Clare and what would be known politically as the Limerick East constituency has been running for decades now.

LONGFORD TOWN; The Town have a team playing in the Midlands Ladies League which is run by the Leinster Football League. It runs in the winter just like the LFL.

MONAGHAN UNITED: No Women's team but then there are none anywhere in the County or Cavan either for that matter.

ST.PATRICK'S ATHLETIC; Took over the O'Connell Chics Club in 1996 and saw their Women's team win the Premier Division of the Dublin Women's Soccer League in 1997. Had two teams for many years but imploded at Senior level in 2001. Entered some underage teams in the Dublin Women's Soccer League in 2004 and are slowly rebuilding.

Are rebuilding at adult level currently finished 4th in the Division this year, but have two underage teams based in Tallaght in 2005.

SHELBOURNE:Took over Welsox in 1995 and lasted until 2002. Currently not in Women's football but may return in future years once their eventual location is sorted out .

SLIGO ROVERS: Do not have a team at present but their is an active Women's League in Sligo/Leitrim.

UNIVERSITY COLLEGE DUBLIN: First played Trinity in 1967. Were beaten finalists in the first two Inter-varsities Cup finals in 1983 and 1984 and finally entered non-Colleges football in 2002. Secured a W.F.A.I. Cup success in their debut season at that level and have won three in a row to date.

Not true Terry as my aunts team, Old Castle Bohemians Ladies F.C were asked to join the club as the womens teams but rejected the offer as they were happy as they were. And also Galway United are not stuck in the Stone Age as the team that they invited has won 10 out of the last 11 league titles and many trebles along the way. They are the best womens team in connaught after winning the Connaught cup agin this year and usually do very well in the FAI womens cup. So at least Galway United have taste in womens abilities....some of them play for Ireland and some are only 14,15,16 and 17 years old but the majority of the team are experienced players who are getting too many medals

Absolutely brillaint stuff - that is fcuking hillarious! I suppose it's better not playing instead of a nail or getting dirty!

I may seem I don't support women's football but in fact I am quite a keen supporter of Ladie's soccer! In the past few months I have watched many Raheny Utd and Stella Maris games - some good female players out there!

Well in situations where the captain is also the team secretary and does some of the coaching and none of the others do very much you can understand how this happens!

Fair play to her for doing the whole show on and off the field! I think that is one problem in women's soccer that there is just 2/3 decent players carrying one team! On the girl's soccer team in my school a couple of years back there were just 2 good players while the rest only joined to get a half day! Says it all really!

So Derry City are active in two countries' leagues and two FAs ?

Can someone tell me why there is no nationwide ladies league? We have one in Northern Ireland (of course smaller distances, but still...)

Always fun to play with the ladies :o ehm, sorry, to watch them play :D

OK to update the situation as I understand it at the start of the 2006 Season:
ATHLONE TOWN: Tookover Bealnamulla a very successful club based near Athlone. Bealnamulla/Athlone Town now play in the famous Nerazzuri strip of the Midlanders and have numerous National Underage Cup titles to their name.

BOHEMIANS: Took over Elm Mount in 1994 and ran as a team until the early part of the Noughties. Were based in Kilbarrack for the last couple of seasons of their existence but more or less disintegrated when their best player ( who was also coach and club secretary) had a baby.

CORK CITY: Still in the stone age no women's team.

DERRY CITY: Formed a Women's team in 2002 and applied to join the Inishowen Ladies League. But have since been accepted by the IFA into the Northern Irish League.

DROGHEDA UNITED: Have taken over Moneymore who were members of the D.W.S.L. will be hosting a friendly match with Monaghan United shortly accoring to Magicme.

DUBLIN CITY: Have a women's team which plays in the Premier A Division of the Dublin Women's Soccer League. One of their club officials is a poster here in foot.ie

DUNDALK: A sister club called Dundalk City Ladies is based in Oriel Park and wear the famous Lilywhite strip of their big brother club. Coached by ex- Shelbourne, St.James's Gate, Glenavon and Monaghan United goalkeeper Tommy Tasker they were beaten in the W.F.A.I. Cup final in 2004 season. Premier Cup Finalist this year but went one better and won the WFAI in 2005. Beaten in in a play-off for second place in the League by Peamount United.

FINN HARPS: A sister club is in existence Finn Valley Ladies. The new stadium in Stranorlar is going to be home to Finn Harps. Was originally also going to be home to Finn Valley Athletics club and the Finn Valley Ladies Soccer team as well. Looks like the merger with athletics may not take place.

GALWAY UNITED: A supporters team has been established.

KILDARE COUNTY; Have no women's team as such. But host club Newbridge Town do. There are now about 4 clubs from the County in the D.W.S.L. but there were many teams previously in the Old Carlow Ladies League.

KILKENNY CITY: Do not have a women's team in spite of their being a vibrant Women's League in the County. Evergreen the leading Non-League soccer club in the city have the most successful team in the Women's League down there.

LONGFORD TOWN; The Town used to have a team playing in the Midlands Ladies League which is run by the Leinster Football League. Been informed that this Women's LTFC has now folded.

MONAGHAN UNITED: A Women's team has just started playing friendlies in 2006.

ST.PATRICK'S ATHLETIC; Took over the O'Connell Chics Club in 1996 and saw their Women's team win the Premier Division of the Dublin Women's Soccer League in 1997. Just two things little things. I wouldn't like to say we 'took over' Bealnamulla, but rather linked up with them. They very much have their own committee still in place who do an excellent job.

The other thing is the midland clubs don't play in the LFL anymore. They split from it at the start of this season when the clubs from the Counties Divisions joined with the OWL League to form the new Combined Counties Football League. There are nine teams in the new women's league, namely Bealnamulla/Athlone Town, Eureka United, Clara Town, Tullamore, Mullingar Athletic, Birr Town, Allenwood, Forest United and Killavilla United.

No they are from Ceannans Mór (a.k.a. Kells) and I think they may have folded as so many of them play GAA  and seem to prefer to play an insular game with no international outlet!

Well they had to pull out of WFAI competitions last summer citing lack of players. Maybe they have reformed.
