Athlone part company with duo
Athlone Town manager John Gill has terminated the contracts of defender Andy Noonan and midfielder Gavin Doyle on disciplinary grounds – although the nature of the pair’s misdemeanour remains unconfirmed.
Former Dundalk man Noonan and ex-Monaghan winger Doyle will not feature for the midlanders again under Gill’s tenure.

What happened here ??
Fairly clear it seems:
"The pair are said to have been asked to turn up for duty for the club’s under-21 side’s meeting with Shelbourne last weekend.
However, the Westmeath Independent reports that neither agreed to play for the side, which is effectively the club’s reserves, and the game had to be called off as Athlone had insufficient players to take part."
The U-21 matches, as anyone who follows this league will tell you, are fairly frequently called off. You have to wonder if it is advisable for a club at the bottom of division one to terminate contracts for refusing to play in this league. I think it is OTT unless there are other factors that haven't come to light. Gavin is a good player and we don't have better ones lined up. Not a good step in my opinion.

Gavin is a good player
In which match was that.
Good riddance to both of them.. We cant get any worse with whoever replaces them.
Shows we have a manager that will take no sh*t from anyone. No superstars in John Gills eyes

Think that Skelly will follow John Gill wherever he goes. So possibly new team the season after next as I don't feel that John Gill has the heart for things when they don't flow well for him over a sustained period of time and this division is going to be very hard get out of next season

Anybody?
Stevie is a good addition to any club provided he can stay injury free.
He'll be missed, a good player and a sound lad aswell.
He even played drums for us up in in Gortakeegan!!!!
Best of luck to him, but not against us ;)

In Athlone TOWN FANS eyes as well. A huge loss for us but he deserves a shot at premier football and will get it sooner at Galway I feel and as Ash has already said
Best of luck to him, but not against us
