I think that it will be business as usual. I think everyone is getting tired of this Noel Kennedy/Pat Quigley/Castlebar Celtic spat. Whether Celtic are right or wrong, applaud them and let their opponents deal with them. They are Mayo's best hope for a big prize this season. You are a Mayo man and a soccer man, so get behind them.

Lads Corrib Rangers beat the holders Mervue Utd 2-1 aet yesterday morning...They have now beating the Irish champions Westport Utd and Connaught champions Mervue Utd in the cup this season

My money is definately on Rangers to lift there first Connaught cup this season

You ought not to be surprised. Corrib Rangers had some of the best underage sides in Galway a number of years back and won Connacht underage cups and they are finally translating their progress at junior level.

Thunderblaster has made a very good observation there, although Corrib Rangers are relative nobodys in the Connacht Junior game if their Juvenille record is anything to go by then their current good run is long overdue. The majority of this team has a minimum of 3 Connacht cup winners medals & i know i'm going back a few years here but i know 2 were against Charlestown.

However i would have to add that if the new boys are going to do it then they 'll have to do it the hard way, they are certainly in the tougher side of the draw, after disposing of the Mayo & Galway kingpins they'l now face Sligo's top team AWAY! Even if that hurdle is overcome its likely that Salthill, Castlebar or Ballinsloe will come along and burst they're bubble.

So to some up its great to see they finally got their house in order, new management i believe, a new team on the connacht junior scene is always welcome, however i'd reckon this year's silverware is going elsewhere.

 CASTLEBAR or BALLINSLOE

What type of team have Salthill anyone know

gazza2
20/02/2006, 3:55 PM
they are the most unpredicatable team in galway
on paper they have the players to challenge Corrib Rangers + Mervue at the top of the league but for some reason they are so inconsistent

they have lost the last 2 games against bad opposition and are now playing Waterford Crystal this weekend in the irish cup and they will probably win that game when they shouldnt

They don't like the aggressive game so if ye play that way ye will take them

I hear Arrow Harps have lodge a protest against Castlebar Celtic game on Sunday last.
this time its in regards to the status of Kelly and barry
Once again kennedy is rubbing his hands, will he ever let go.this seems will run and run.
Monday senior council will make a decission on Crew v Celtic which I think Celtic will win.

gazza2
23/02/2006, 11:38 AM
Colmanstown are 3rd last in the premier but have won there last 2 games against Salthill + Athenry...both these are still in the Irish cup

West are about 4th or 5th in the First Division and going alright i suppose.

Colmanstown to win easy enough i'd say

So swinfordfc.....6 out of 7 so far is pretty impressive

What are Ballina town like - even though i would say they are hot favourites to beat salthill at the weekend.

Salthill have lost there last 3 games and gone out of 2 cups and fallen way behind in the Galway league so this is there only chance of any silverware this season

I was up there and both teams were shocking bad and it was one of the worst games i saw in a long time.

There was no drive, passion, commitment or anything like that from either team.

Salthill should beat colmanstown next round and then i think they will be losing semi finalists again Corrib rangers or Abbey utd

I think Gazza2 you need to purchase the Western People and read the match report, Ballina Town dominated the game for 80 minutes, and didnt capitalise, they were playing some lovely football, with alot of pride and heart, so your comment for mindless and unwarranted..

As i said it was my honest opinion of the game. The game was terrible and the paper always try and make it sound interesting even if its not.

I watched the whole game on sunday and i still say it was terrible by both teams.

The surface was great and the ball was in the air the whole game - i better stop now before i really get into a rant about it

When i said there was no passion, commitment etc - this wasnt just aimed at ballina town,it was aimed at both teams and i still stand by it

ballinatownfc
08/03/2006, 9:16 AM
id agree that salthill lacked any commitment, they spent the game fighting among themselves, and showed no team spirit, on the other hand ballina were very discipline and determined....

i was also up to see the game, and from the touchline it was a good performance, that what the reporter saw and said, and i talked to a neutral at the game who agreed, since the paper backs me up, a say to you check mate...

Thunder might have been closer to clouds

So it is Cumulonimbus clouds that are hanging over the Connacht Cup, the clouds that are responsible for thunderstorms! I checked up the doppler and sferic (lightning) charts and I'm afraid that there were no thunderclouds detected over the Connacht region. I'm sure that Evelyn "Thunderstorm Activity" Cusack might be able to help you out in identifying cloud patterns over the Connacht region and she would be ably assisted with a nod and a wink from.......Gerald Fleming!!!!!!:D
