The squad for the first round of qualifiers for the 2025 UEFA Women's Under-19 Championship was announced a few weeks ago, which is a little strange - usually the squads for underage qualification tournaments are announced the same week that the qualifiers kick off

Won the opening game against Bulgaria 2-0, which should be enough to qualify for the second round. Last year, three points was enough to get out of all but two of the first round qualifying groups

Interesting statistic from the Bulgaria game according to the UEFA website was the yellow card count which was seven for Bulgaria and none for Ireland.

Eve O'Carroll, who was selected for the U18 friendlies in October against Belgium - https://www.fai.ie/latest/wu19s-select-squad-double-header-against-belgium/ - but was not in the squad for the qualifiers, made her debut for Man City Women in the Women's Super League today.

At 17 years of age, she must be the youngest Irish player to appear in the league?
<EDIT>
Did some checking, if this list of Irish players in the WSL - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_foreign_Women%27s_Super_League_players#Rep ublic_of_Ireland - is accurate, then former underage player Harriet Lambe is the current youngest Irish player to appear in the competition. She was 16 when she made her debut for Yeovil against Liverpool in January 2018.

The draw for the second round was made last week, and we've been drawn against France(top seeds, scored 16 and conceded none in the first round), Serbia, and Wales

Beat Serbia 1-0 in the opening game of the second round of qualifying yesteday: https://www.uefa.com/womensunder19/match/2043713--serbia-vs-republic-of-ireland/
With France beating group hosts Wales(or Cymru) yesterday evening by the same scoreline, both teams are joint first in the group.
Second game against Wales is on Saturday

Lost 1-0 to Wales in the second game - https://www.uefa.com/api/v1/linkrules/match/2043738/ - with France beating Serbia 4-3.
Serbia went 3-1 ahead with less than twenty minutes to go, before France scored three times to win.
Need to get a point against France, or hope that Serbia don't take anything off Wales, to avoid slipping into league B in the first qualifying round for next year's championship

<EDIT>
It's getting interesting at half time in both games. Ireland are leading France 1-0, and Serbia are leading Wales 1-0.

Two late goals for France, a penalty and a breakaway after a throw in for Ireland, means they top the group with a 100% record. That's the second time they came from behind to win in the group.
Wales drew with Serbia after a 96th minute penalty, with Serbia leading since the tenth minute, to finish second, with Ireland third, and Serbia fourth, and relegated to League B in the first round of qualifiers for 2026's championship
I got to see the last 15 minutes or so of the Ireland game. The conditioning of the French side looked to be a lot better than the Irish team, they were first to every loose ball and were still full of running into injury time at the end of the game.
