Seeing as 'Midfielders' are common threads at the moment. Does anybody know how Colin Healy is getting on. The Sunderland site does not say a whole lot.

I haven't heard much. I have a bad feeling that even if he does come back, he's missed out on some of the most important years of development for a player. Hopefully not, always gave his all.

was over in sunderland at the weekend for the west brom game and went to the training ground on the monday .. got talking to mick after the training and asked him about healy . He said been a total seperate injury to the broken legs they are more hopeful this time but he does not see colin back before the new year .. he hopes he might be training again in january but mick prob does not see him in first team action till maybe march .. he is out of contract at the moment so will have to prove his fitness before he is given another decent contract at the club ...

also talked to mick about ireland . He was disapointed with french result and think france will push on from here and beat switzerland .. he thinks we will get the playoff but as he says its a lottery from there ... great chat with the fella .. if only he was turned on by half the country and his captain ....

i never turned on him, i agree what you mean though, he did annoy me as a manager a lot of the time, but as a person he seemed like a decent fella and i felt bad for the man.

He stood (and continues to stand) for a lot of things I can identify with. Mick McCarthy is a legend, plain and simple. :D

As for Colin Healy; the latest poor soul in a line of promising Irish players who have struggled with injury during their ascendancies. Good luck to him, let's hope we see him back playing football sometime soon.

Funny you should mention Healy. Last time I was back home I was on the lash with one of my best mates in Mulligans in Dublin. One of his ex-workmates was there too and he's a good friend of Colin's and they go over to visit him a few times a year.

He told me pretty much the same story as Mick told Zinedineontour. It's a separate injury from the breaks. What happened was that he had just started to train fully and run around. Then as part of training sessions one of the coaches had the squad run up a steep bank to build their leg mussels. Healy said he didn't really feel up to it but the coach insisted he give it a go and as a result picked up his latest injury. His contract ran out recently but Mick is standing by him and is going to give him every chance to make a comeback. I'm not Mick’s biggest fan but that's pretty sound of him. Colin is very determined to get back into it so if it doesn't happen it won't be down to a lack of effort on his part. He just moved into a beautiful new house and he has a very fit girlfriend. So, not all is bad for him. Hopefully he'll have better news before next Easter.

just out of interest, and not just related to healy, but in general:
2/3 years at celtic, 3/4 years at sunderland as a pro.
would he be set up for a comfortable life if his legs gave up now?
