Seem to remember a crafty way of getting RTE in the UK through SKY Digital that was posted on here a while back. Can't seem to find it though. I remember it involved pretending to SKY that you'd moved back home, getting them to send a viewing card to an Irish address and then getting that card sent over to the UK. Is it as simple as that?

Also, I'm thinking of getting Freesat from SKY for this purpose - can't afford a monthly subscription. For those of you who don't know, you pay £150 for dish and box and thats your lot! Channel wise you get a slightly better version of FREEVIEW. I'd only consider this though if I could get RTE for EL and Ireland games. Anyone know if this "scam" is still possible and would it work on Freesat. Don't know if Freesat is available in Ireland at the moment

I have a English Sky box and card so I can get BBC1,2,3,4 ITV1,2,3 Ch. 4, Ch 5 and a few more so i'd say you can do the same with RTE in England

Yes very simple as you say - or just cancel your UK sub and take out an Irish sub from an Irish address. Get them to post the card over and then call Sky to get it setup for your Digibox.

You will then need a Free to View card from SKY for ITV (soon to be Free to air anyway) channel 4 and Five. See www.freesatfromsky.com Note the card is only £20 not the £150 advertised just tell them you have the equipment. You need a UK address to get this card.

Works in reverse for Irish residents - simply order the £20 card from a UK address and you get ITV, C4 & Five. It's easy to swop cards or setup a different Digibox in the bedroom.

Best thing is dumping NTHell completely.

Hugely disappointed with this thread - for some reason, when I saw it, I thought that there would be a cleverly put together set of lyrics that could substitute in the old Sex Pistols' track "Anarchy in the UK", ending with something like:
And I
wanna see
RTE

Oh well :(

did it myself when living away in luxembourg

you buy the box bout 150eur - ring sky and look for 2nd hand subscription (say you have your own box) - you'll just have to give the irish address etc.

even better if you have house in ireland - get the sky installed there (think its free box / satellite dish etc) - then yank down the dish and drive back home to Scotland!!
