Shelbourne are set to complete a trio of signings from England, including Northern Ireland international striker Philip Gray, while assistant manager Alan Matthews will hold talks with the club on Monday about his future.

Gray is set to be joined at Tolka Park by fellow-Oxford United player David Savage and Coventry forward Barry Ferguson.

Shels, who are expected to name midfielder Pat Fenlon as head coach on Monday, are also aiming to sign two un-named National League players, while a third is also in the running.

33-year-old Gray has won 26 caps for Northern Ireland, scoring six goals. His career has spanned several clubs, including Tottenham, Barnsley, Fulham, Sunderland, Luton, Fortuna Sittard in Holland and Nancy in France.

Savage, a Dublin-born midfielder, has played for the Republic of Ireland at under-age level. The 28-year-old has been a regular in the Oxford side this season and is expected to sign at the end of the English season. United are 16th in Division Three with two games remaining after Saturday.

Barry Ferguson has struggled to gain a place in the Coventry first team. The 21-year-old striker has had loan spells with Bournemouth and Hartlepool, and is seen as a good young prospect at Shelbourne.

Dave Savage has a number of full caps for Ireland ( 3 or 4 ). He also played for Longford Town before McCarthy signed him for Millwall.

Whether Gray signs or not remains to be seen -we all heard the rumours about David Kelly signing and then he didn't because Shels can't afford these players' wages.

How good could these guys be now (whatever about their history) given Oxford finished lower than Carlisle this season.

I'm trying to look on the positive side of all of this: if Shels are making these signings and offering higher wages than any other LOI club, then the club should be bankrupt pretty soon - unless they are also going to sign some decent fans to fill Tolka!!

C'mon City

Shels will never fill Tolka unless they're playing a British team in Europe or they play a fictional team again:rolleyes:
