...on the Shamrock Rovers forum (http://www.aimoo.com/forum/postview.cfm?id=606830&CategoryID=362984&startcat=1&ThreadID=2233833) - getting worked up over notions we might be moving to the athletics track! :p

A Dundalk-style pitch is mentioned for the Bowl though - haven't heard anything about this. Would it be feasible for rugby? DS has always mentioned his lawnmowers which cut the grass the right way, which would rule out artifical grass. Would be more opposed to this than the move, to be honest.

Well given that Shane Byrne ( former Leinster hooker) was doing PR for the company which installed Dundalk's pitch earlier this year I would not be at all surprised if a pitch like that was being contemplated. Again you would have to factor in playing soccer in the summer on a grass pitch hacked up by a winter's rugby into your calculations there.

And a 2,000 seater stadium also shows a remarkable lack of ambition, next time we qualify for Europe if we are playing in the Bowl we would still have to move the game unless it was against the 3rd placed team from Kazakhstan of course. Given that Belfield Park in the 1980's once held almost 4,000 for a First Division game against Derry City ( back in the days when they had a Decent travelling support of course :D )

Soccer and rugby can't share an astro pitch because you can't cut the grass to remove line markings.

2,000 seats is plenty for our needs. There's room to expand, on the off chance that we need to.

Interesting point - hadn't thought of that. Knew the rugby had to rule out artificial some way though. My only argument against it was the magic lawnmower which had specially angled blades.

2000 is plenty of seats. Our average is about 700, and the very top crowds are 1500 or so. The Derry game was a complete once-off.

No neutrals will bother their hole coming to see us play them basically.

Classic! I think this is my favourite...

Well they're gonna support the irish players. By definition, that means NOT SUPPORTING the French players ie being AGAINST them. How the hell are they meant to show "anti-support" for the french players? Talk amongst themselves? Write a column in their weekly newsletter? Send a few txts to their mates sayin Henry smells of wee wee? Stay perfectly silent?
