The slim hopes we have of a league comeback will be tested tonight up in Sligo.
To say im pessimistic is an understatement,
Cork v an informish Bray might be interesting and UCD and Harps should be winning in Cobh and Longford.
Pats v Bohs should be a good match, we need to hope they dont put a run together becasue with Waterfod and Galway looking strong Rovers need to make sure they qualify for Europe next year or this season could go from a calamity to a serious medium term decline in the club. If Galway win their game in hand we are fourth and out of a guaranteed Europe spot with an away maych against Bohs in the cup to look forward to off the back of the Europe matches.

A swift opportunity for Kerry to get back on the wagon, even if our overall record against Wexford is rather woeful, but so much as a point tonight would leave the seasonal record at almost double that of last year. Keeping the excellent home form undoubtedly has to be the priority, of course.

Shels tonight versus Galway are without Mark Coyle due to suspension and obviously no Gav Molloy anymore with Sam Bone and Ali Coote not eligible yet. Possibly our worst performance of the season was without Coyle in the away game versus Galway it will be a test for Duff to get our tactics right this time tonight

Must win in the Brandywell against the first of two matches in a row against our bogey teams.
Drogs and now bottom, and we really should be winning this comfortably, but who knows.

Still think Shamrock Rovers will go on a proper run like they usually do, but I've been saying this for a couple of months now. Tonight's the night?

Not expecting much from Bohs tonight to say the least. I guess it's a free hit before Tierney and whoever else gets signed are available for selection but that Derry performance last time out was one of the worst I've seen in a while. It'll be good to see Jake Carroll get more minutes I guess, he looked pretty assured on his debut.

Bohs might benefit from the compact surrounds of Inchicore. Keep it close for 75 mins and push for the win from there would be the game plan I think. The squad is in dire need of a revamp though it's bloated with a lot of poor quality players so I'll take a point now if you offered it to me.

Dundalk concede at home for the first time in four months. 767 minutes all told - though they've only scored four times in that period of course.

Shels and Derry both winning, so extra pressure on Rovers already.

Simon Power scores against his former club as Rovers' crisis deepens.

In fact, it's just gone 2-0. Power again.

They're three points behind Waterford, and a point ahead of Galway who have a game in hand

Funny how often when the end comes it comes so quick…. Can’t see us doing anything in Europe so hopefully we’ll manage a cup run ( doubtful) … all about rebuilding ( which we will do) and I hope Bradley stays and does that …. I noted he made a veiled reference earlier this week to some players becoming complacent, so perhaps a lack drive and not just the injury problems is the cause of our failure…. Won’t be the first or last time that happens

Looks like the first Sligo goal went right through Pohls - more dodgy keeping haunting Rovers

UCD with a sixth draw in seven matches yet we're still second. Can't see that being enough to trouble the playoffs.

Cork 13 points clear now and cantering home as expected. And this season, something happening as expected is pretty unexpected

Great game in Richmond, pats and ourselves really going at it, we are terribly short still at right back( miller filling in is good but a midfielder first) and centre mid( Flores and McDonnell just don’t work ) also a little suprised Connolly is apparently surplus atm?
Still, I have faith in Reynolds so far, work rate has doubled and lads who never tackled are working.

Much like last season a good 0-0 between us and Bohs, better game than the scoreline suggests. Think it's fair to say we deserved to win it on the balance of chances over the course of it though, so a frustrating one ultimately. A lot of points left behind this season.

Shels fully deserved to win tonight, GUFC were second best all over the pitch. We'll have a couple of signings eligible to play the next game at home to Bohs, we desperately need them to freshen things up

Thought a draw fair enough?
Bit disappointed in your main lads, git not at it and mulraney poor enough delivery. How is b Kavanagh not starting??

Much better performance from Bohs tonight. With a bit of extra quality in the final third might have nicked it but we didn't really have many options off the bench. They definitely put a shift in though. Thought Jake Carroll and Paddy Kirk were superb along with Chorazka in goal. Fair play to Cian Byrne having a good game after hardly playing for the last few months.

Interesting that Gaxha wasn't even in the squad tonight - injured, or do those loan rumblings have any truth to them?

Positive signs of Kenny’s style of play starting to come through. I reckon Pats had more shots on target tonight than in any game this season, Chorazka in goal for Bohs had a great game. Pats sort of went missing for the middle third of the game but if they can keep that sort of pressure on teams for 90 mins in games they’ll win the game more often than not. Bohs looked dangerous on the counter but in the final third they lacked composure and didn’t work Rogers enough in goal. Good game as mentioned above.

Based on the few glimpses I've had of him, I would give him a few games in a row. Hurley has been quite poor all year in the number 10 but never gets dropped. McCarthy has been superb on the wing, O'Sullivan on the other side has been inconsistent and Dervin is carrying an injury so Gaxha should have played a lot more. It would be disappointing to see him leave before getting a proper chance

Ah yeah, I just meant on the balance of chances we probably had more (or Chorazka had more good saves to make at least) but I don't think a draw was an unfair result or anything.

It's a weird one with Kavanagh, I agree with you that he should be playing because he's got better a better final ball/end product than anyone else in the squad (most assists in the league still I believe) but he seems to kind of occupy this weird middle ground with managers of not being physical enough to play in midfield but also not fast or good enough 1v1 to be a winger. He made all the difference when he came on though. Mulraney has flattered to deceive since we signed him really, big single moments of quality but in between large amounts of nothingness, Forrester just seems to have a different, more reserved role now but can't argue that there's been a big drop off this season.

Its taken a while but you got there in the end CJ. Occasionally fans of other clubs making outside observations are not an assault on a club or begrudgery - Seeing the wood for the trees in the face of overinvested denial!

One save in the first half was unreal. Jake Mulraney delivered a perfect cross, Ruairi Keating did everything right to head it to the bottom corner and the keeper somehow got a hand to it.

I really enjoyed it. Hard to believe such an end-to-end game could finish scoreless.

Nothing to worry about in the end, Duff got everything right with one of our best performances of the season despite Rob Hennessy's usual pathetic efforts to screw us over. Kam Ledwidge outstanding in place of Molloy and Evan Caffrey with his best performance in a Shels shirt running the show in middle of the park in place of Coyle

It didn’t make the highlights ? Holy Cow. Probably the best piece of football in the match. Great run and cross from Mulraney, super header from Keating, which looked in all the way, and an outstanding save from the Bohs keeper.

Thought Pats had the better chances alright, though it was probably even enough on the balance of play.

The company that make the highlights are quite clueless to be fair. There’s always a lot of stuff they don’t add to the highlights package that really should be in there but then they’ll show 3 or 4 replays of a fairly innocuous chance. It’s pretty clear that whoever makes them comes from a video editing background and not a football background or a combo of both. For example in the highlights of tonight’s game we got to see several replays of Mulraney putting a ball 30 yards over the bar from 25 yards, but not the brilliant first half save Chorazka save from Keating’s header or his late save from Kavanagh’s decent effort from 20 yards. I always take the highlights packages with a pinch of salt as they can’t really be trusted to give a totally accurate representation of how games go

Dundalk were dreadful tonight, deserved absolutely nothing, Waterford had probably only 2-3 chances and took them, well organised and fit side, incredible rise to 3rd.

With Sligo 'surprise' win (or was it) v Rovers, seems to be nailed on now for the Co Louth OK Corral shoot out, whoever is the worst goes down, the marginally better gets the play off.

Unexpected win from my perspective in Showgrounds tonight. Towell could off nearly had a hat trick early on. Delighted for Power and then when he turned to us in the stand after he bungled in the first goal only on pitch, legend but you could see what it meant to him, dodgy keeper lol

Shams missed a rake of chances but Ed only had to make one decent save from JK in the second half. We were well on top most of the second half. Great second goal. So talented but such a pity he’s so injury prone. Hopefully keep hold of Ed and Denham and get a striker in.

Shams could lose another fortune this season and no CL football for 25 by the looks of it

Aye, we could be looking at Shams 3.0 soon enough, playing out of Bray or UCD which are probably the only venues in the GDA they haven't had as a home ground back in the long ago.

They've no European football at all next season as things stand.

Ok, fourth usually gets it by default based on the Cup winners being top three - but wouldn't be banking on that in a season as open as this.

Plus even that's moot if Galway win their game in hand and dump Rovers down to fifth

Technically they did play a home game against us in Belfield Park back in the day. I think the college wasn't open to Rovers basing there on a more permanent basis but I think it might have been mooted at one stage. Could be wrong on that though

If you're selling houses these days the Greater Dublin Area extends nearly as far as Belfast in the north and Wexford in the South!

Harps off form last night again. Really struggled in front of goal. Still really struggling with a number of injuries too, Tourish, McLaughlin and O'Brien all missing last night, Hutchison and Jordan only returning from long term injuries to the bench. All five would be looking to start. Add in O'Donnell heading off to America and we're really down bodies.

We have a very small first team squad so really need to be getting everyone back fit asap or we'll continue to fall off the pace.

The more you look at it the most astonishing it gets. A Derry player played the ball to Keaney. Even if the officials misakingly thought a Drogs player played it to Keaney, there were 4 Derry players playing him onside anyways. His cross then deflected off a Derry player and into the net. Again, if the officials mistakingly thought the last touch came off a Drogs player, it’s still irrelevant as a Derry player is stood on the goal line playing all Drogs players onside. So even giving the officials room for mistakes, it’s still a horrendous call for elite level football in any country

Don't understand that one. There's only three touches. You can't be offside from a corner so it's not the first touch. And the ref has his hand up before the ball hits the net so I don't think it's the shot. That leaves the Drogheda toe-poke on the edge of the six yard box and there's clearly no offside there (even for the Drogheda guy in front of the keeper, because he was a defender between him and the keeper, and possibly another playing him on too - all directly along the lino's line of sight)

Here's the tweet embedded for convenience btw.

Week after week, nothing surprises me with referees in this league. The standard is beyond abysmal, and you're not allowed to question it, or challenge decisions. It's only getting worse too.
