good result for ye, Lavine looked to be the difference on the night, never gave the ball away and put a superb ball in for O'Brien to score. We dominated the 1st half but as is how our season is going we have nothing up front to finish teams off.

Yep, good result but consistency is badly needed. whenever the pressure is on the player just aren't up for it - e.g. losing to Dundalk.

Just to let you all know a few more pictures have been added to the gust photo gallery; from the france game - thanks to galwaygirl for the pics. Keep them coming.

Also a new poll has started asking "Do you think Summer Soccer has been a success for Galway United?"

Derek O’Brien fired the only goal of the western derby on Friday night 20 minutes from time at Hogan Park, with the home side finishing the game with 10 men following the dismissal of recent signing Chris Jones.

O’Brien’s strike separated the sides after a closely-fought derby clash, and helped the Tribesmen climb level on points with Kilkenny City and Kildare County in First Division mid-table.

Ex-Leeds United trainee Jones was shown the red card by Cork referee Dan Deady five minutes after O’Brien’s opener to leave Limerick facing an uphill task.

The home side were unable to find a leveller, and defeat is a major blow to their promotion hopes – they are now six points adrift of current play-off spot incumbents Dublin City with 10 games remaining.

A very good result, and it really tightens up middle of the table, with only 4 points separating 3rd from 8th.

Its unreal alright, the first division this year has been a right mess. Pity they changed the play-off from 2nd, 3rd and 4th with the 2nd last from the premier to just 2nd last against 2nd in the first division. If they played it the old way, so many teams would be still playing for something and the season wouldn't be ending for so many clubs with 10 games still left to play.

All of us down in Tralee were delighted to see that Derek scored the winner against Limerick!, a just reward for the amount of effort/dedication he puts into Galway.

Hopefully Galway can finish on a high now as the season starts coming to a close.
