That was a let down of a weekend all right, the Steelers game was decent enough, the injury to Palmer was a shame.

Home teams in the playoffs with the bye week traditionaly walk by. I dont have the stats off hand but they make a very compelling argument to go with all 4 teams playing at home.

However that doesn't account for Tom Brady and the Patriots. They're the only team that will win away from home. Watch Peyton pick that Steelers D apart although they might cover the spread, same for the Skins as the spread is pretty big there too.

I suppose it was a long shot thinking the Jags would beat the Pats, but I was very disappointed with the Giants. They were just awful!

Anyway I hope to do better this weekend.

Saturday, Jan. 14
Washington at Seattle 9:30 p.m. (Seattle)
New England at Denver 1:00 a.m. (New England)

Sunday, Jan. 15
Pittsburgh at Indianapolis 6:00 p.m. (Indianapolis)
Carolina at Chicago 9:30 p.m. (Carolina)

Yeah I reakon they'll have a big backlash after being so rubbish last week especially if they can get Portis fully fit. Also, reckon the Seahawks are overrated. Probably gonna be totally wrong but who knows

A lot of people were saying that to me at training this morning (I play with the DCU Saints) and I can understand why but personally I like the way New England play and enjoy their style more than most sides, even if they've had the Steelers number for a few years!

Speaking of Pittsburgh an inordinately high number of the non-Steelers fans, well 2, have told me they fancy them for the upset tonight. I wish I had their faith!

Soko
15/01/2006, 5:14 PM
I like the Pats, they're a well run, clean organisation so the only thing you can hate on is their success. They should have won that game too, Brady was off all night and losing 3 fumbles and an INT which went directly for 24 points - thats just strange all capped off by Vinatieiri missing an easy FG.

What a game, what an incredible game. I was at the most emotional I have ever been during a Steelers game. Watched it in Buskers, was unreal, so many highs and lows, especially in that final quarter. One of, if not the, most exciting games I've ever witnessed (please note I didn't see the Rose Bowl:D ).

And the bonus is it puts me to 2/3 on the weekend with the Panthers leading.

Dodge

What a weekend!!! Exactly why everyone loves the play offs. Was 3/4 myself (thought the Pats would win)

Cannot wait until next week...

Panthers - Bears game was excellent.

I'm beginning to think Peyton Manning is the next coming of Dan Marino. He could well end up with every passing record there is in the book but absolutly nothing to show for. He only won 1 SEC title in school and no national championship despite holding over 40 passing records when he left. He went 0-4 against Florida and never won the big games in college.

Now as a pro New England became his Florida. They always had his number and when the path eventually looked clear he stumbles, at home, on turf, to a team they dismantled earlier in the season. Now Pittsburgh played well but they had home advantage all the way and would have played Denver for the 3rd year running in the AFC Championship, they annihilated them the past 2 years in the playoffs. Now his huge cap number hampers signing both Edge and Reggie Wayne, it may even mean both go. He criticised his OL but his cap number may mean it cant be improved through FA. If wayne goes them Harrison is getting on and the defense need alot more work than they thought. this may have been his best chance to get to the SB in his career.

panthers looked good alright. steelers/colts was one of the best games i'd ever seen, who'd hgave thought Vanderjagt would have missed that field goal? i know it was a high pressure situation but he's the most accurate kicker in the NFL's history for christs sake..

Roethlisberger's tackle after the Bus's fumble was top class too, if he didnt make that it was good night irene.

BTW who was that new presenter guy last night? Bring back Kevin Cade!!!

Dodge
16/01/2006, 10:15 AM
He dos it the odd time. Also does the NFL Europe programmes.

Big Ben's tackle was one of the plays of the weekend. If Watson's tackle of champ Bailey had've resulted ina touchback, that would've been

Was a great weekend all right. Typical play-offs with some surprises. It won't be too easy pick winners either this weekend, but here's what I think anyway:

Sunday, January 22nd:
Pittsburgh Steelers at Denver Broncos 8:00 p.m. (Pittsburgh)
Carolina Panthers at Seattle Seahawks 11:30 p.m. (Seattle)

That's the superbowl I wanna see anyway but I fear for Pittsburgh. DOn't think the number 6 seed has ever made it to the superbowl

Good work Shedite. Thanks for keeping an eye on things. Well done Aberdonian, that's some going.

Who on here was well up the sky sports fantasy league? How did ya finish up?

I'd be up for some bowl predictions. Maybe who leads after each quater? Or which QB will come up with more passing yards?

I got out of jail for my weekend betting by lumping on Hawks at -3.5 in the handicap. Phew.

Alright it's time to make some predictions ahead of the big game:

Passing yards: Roethlisberger over Hasselbeck
Rushing yards: Alexander over Parker
Team Rushing yards: Pittsburgh over Seattle (I figure this is relevant as individual rushing looks a slam dunk to me).
First TD: Hines Ward
Offence with most turnovers: Seattle
Winner: Pittsburgh

Ok ladies and gents lets have your views.
