Ok so a lot of it is dated, but I’ve been watching the Best Of…. on DVD lately and there are still many moments that stand up as pure genius.

For me though, it doesn’t get any better than the “Ministry of Silly Walks” sketch, in fact, even though they weren’t writing partners, I find the sketches that John Cleese and Michael Palin act on together are always the best.

I know its from the Life of Brian, but I quite like the "Romanus eunt domus" grammar lesson scene. "Conjugate that verb!"

=====
Also, its not even Python this time, but Cleese's sketch in Faulty Towers where Basil says to Manuel:
"There is too much butter on those trays"
"que...? "
"...on those trays!"
"No senor! Not 'on those trays'... 'Uno, dos, tres!"

The four Yorkshiremen sketch (that was theirs originally wasn't it?)

Fantastic, Spanish Inquisition a close second.

Every Sperm is sacred is my favourite song. Not "Sit on my face and tell me that you love me"?

It would be wrong to say the parrot sketch is tired. But it is.

I've always been rather fond of the bignose bit in Life of Brian.

"One more time mate, and I'll take you to the f*cking cleaners!"

Did Latin in school - makes the "Person called Romanus they go the 'ouse?!" sketch so much funnier! If our Latin teacher had been allowed a sword in class, he'd have reacted exactly the same way as the Roman soldier every time we mixed up dative and ablative...

Four Yorkshiremen is quality. I quite enjoy the parrot sketch, the idiot quiz...

Ghastly Quizmaster: Jolly good! Well now Madam your first question for the blow on the head this evening is: Which great opponent of Cartesian dualism resists the reduction of psychological phenomena to a physical state and insists there is no point of contact between the extended and the unextended?
Ratbag: I don't know that.
Ghastly Quizmaster: Well -- have a guess!
Ratbag: Oh... Henri Bergson?
Ghastly Quizmaster: ...is the correct answer! (Piano chords)
Ratbag: Ooh, that was lucky. I never even heard of him.

...the philosophers' song, the argument clinic (could apply to some posters here :) )...plenty of them! Have an old record of Monty Python at the Drury Lane Theatre - not quite the same when you can't see the actions as well, but still great listening.

From time to time I have been known to sing the accountancy-shanty:
"its fun to charter an accountant,
and sail the wide accountancy,
We'll find, explore, the funds offshore,
and skirt the coasts of bancruptcy...!"
(no, I'm not an accountant!)

or

"Finland, Finland, Finland!...
...a poor second to Belgium, when going abroad"

Also love

Man (MP): Inspector! Inspector!

Inspector (JC): Yes sir?

Man: I was sitting on a park bench just now and I put my coat down and when I picked it up again I found my wallet had gone and 15 pounds had been stolen.

Inspector: Did you see any, anyone?

Man: No, no one at all.

Inspector: Well there's very little we can do about that sir.

Man: (pause) Do you wanna come back to my place?

Inspector: (pause) Yeah, all right.

The Four Yorkshiremen would be my favourite, but isn't it Tim Brooke Taylor's (from the Goodies), while Cleese was involved, I think it pre-dated Python.

(Oh Christ: Nerd alert  , fcuk it, it's my favourite)

The Ministry of Silly Walks second
Spanish Inquisition third

Also love the
Brian: "you're all individual"
Mob: "We're all individual"
One Guy: "I'm not"

piece from the Life of Brian, IMO the funniest line in the history of Film.
Actually laughing here at the desk just thinking about it, brilliant :D :D :D

I like the farcical sketches the best.

1. The one with the stoning in the Life of Brian.

2. The confusion with guards and the landlord/king in the Hold Grail. :D

3. There is a sketch where they are shooting a movie at the beach and a lion attacks I think. Its so stupid cause its just a lion teddy being thrown around.

his heals and fled, brave, brave, brave, brave Sir Robin "

Yeah saw that, also on that DVD is a clip of the speech John Cleese gave at Graham Champman's fureral

++

I guess that we're all thinking how sad it is that a man of such talent, such capability and kindness, of such intelligence should now be so suddenly spirited away at the age of only forty-eight, before he'd achieved many of the things of which he was capable, and before he'd had enough fun.

Well, I feel that I should say, "Nonsense. Good riddance to him, the freeloading *******! I hope he fries."

Good old Arthur 'Two sheds' Jackson.
As mentioned, the Spanish Inquisition.

The one in the Holy Grail when they come up against the Rabbit:

Monk in the Holy Grail:

And the Lord spoke, saying, "First shalt thou take out the Holy Pin.
Then, shalt thou count to three, no more, no less. Three shalt be the
number thou shalt count, and the number of the counting shalt be
three.

Four shalt thou not count, neither count thou two, excepting that thou
then proceed to three.

Five is right out! Once the number three, being the third number be
reached, then lobbest thou thy Holy Hand Grenade of Antioch towards
thou foe, who, being naughty in my sight, shall snuff it."

actually anyone seen Live at Aspen? when they're getting interviewed by Robert Klein, and they bring out an urn with Graham chapmans "ashes"...Was that the one where Terry Gilliam was wearing a TinTin jumper? If so, that wasn't the funny part, the funny part was when Terry crossed his legs and knocked over the urn, and then John cleans it up with a dust buster. Now that's f*cking funny.

There was a lot of improv in the live shows, I think. John Cleese and Michael Palin used to try and make each other crack up laughing during some shows. Worked on occasions as well!
