Draw a reasonable result in Ferrycarrig tonight as Cobh put in a much improved shift in the second half after going a goal down late in the first half. With Ethan Boyle believed to be suspended, Wexford began with Owen, Cian, Mikie, Kian, Thomas, Mark, Luka, James, Kaylem, Sean and Reece. Wexford began brightly and on three minutes, a back-header by Sean McHale from a long throw by Cian O’Malley looped towards Cobh’s far post and struck the outside of that post. A minute later, Wexford’s Kaylem Harnett had an effort half-blocked by a Cobh defender. Cobh then came into the game and two last-ditch blocks by Reece Webb and Kian Corbally for Wexford prevented two likely Cobh chances. Both sides were frequently happy to go long on occasions but both defences were dominant aerially with Brendan Frahill and Justin Eguaibor not giving anything away in the air to the Wexford forwards. On twenty minutes, Kaylem Harnett put Thomas Oluwa in the clear but the latter was ruled offside. Unfortunately, Kaylem was injured in this passage of play and was replaced by Darragh Levingston. Just after the half-hour mark, Owen Mason in the Wexford goal was forced to go full stretch to deny Cobh’s Bosnjak from scoring. The ball that Wexford needed was one which went over Frahill and Eguaibor but not long enough to reach Burke in the Cobh goal. It more or less occurred in the 43rd minute when Thomas Oluwa and Burke competed in the air for a bouncing ball just inside the Cobh area. Burke isn’t the tallest and Thomas did just enough to win the battle and he was able to square it to Mikie Rowe who had a simple task of finishing for 1-0 to Wexford.
