Thought I lost the genesis reporter lastnight before getting a chance to read it but thankfully it resurfaced on the train home lastnight :) .
Very good read - is a definite must for Eircom League fans.
I presume its directed at irish fans in general, so maybe a bit more content on the national team wouldnt go astray.
As for the 'contovercial' ollie byrne piece - I thought it was fairly balanced.
Anyway great job , though if you could get your sellers to shout that theyre selling it, it might be of some help - only by chance I got it when some dude walked by me with a few mags in hand and walked 2 yards by me and i had to recall him and ask what he was selling!
As for youboysingreen. As like last time i didnt think it had a fanzine buzz to it. However it is a very good read. I would classify if as a magazine on ireland rather than a fanzine though - cant see it be too contovercial whereby the geneseis reporter looks like it'll aways be close to the bone!!

Yeah, got both - both very different but good in their own ways. Haven't gotten around to reading the Ollie article yet, but was pleasantly surprised to see a picture of myself with one hand up a puffin, one holding a pint, wearing a souvenir t-shirt, a UCD scarf and a Jens Martin Knudsen hat in the Genesis Reporter! :) A better photo from the Faroes you couldn't find, I think - sums everything up!

Yep, the editorial gave that impression alright.

Well Cosmo, when I was selling edition one I was screaming it out, although I was a bit tipsy at the time!!!

I was shouting when selling mine but I was restricted to a fairly small area as I was waiting on people to give them their tickets so didn't sell as many as I'd have liked.
Didn't think much of YouBoysInGreen. Too much advertising, more like a magazine than anything else. Still I'd say they're making alright money from it if that's their buzz. Only controversial article was a syncophantic rant to the anti el masses. Pathetic.
Haven't had a chance to read the other one yet, but it already wins by not looking or feeling like a bloody chat or something.

LOL :D Thats probably the funniest post Ive ever seen on foot.ie!
Glad that ye liked it, but ye are right, distribution is a big big problem for us. For various (non-contraversial) reasons the number of people selling them was down on before. There will be a few copies on sale at the UCD game tomorrow and maybe at Cork too. If anyone else can sell them at eL grounds in the next few weeks let me know and I'll get some to ye.

If you ask me, Troy, the biggest problem is that everyone selling them is also going to the match so posts are abandoned about 20 mins before kick off, which is the key time. What's needed is ticketless people in the facinity of Lansdown but they're very hard to come by.
I had a glance through the Stars Fanzine & was interesting to see Kevin Doyle get a mention as future squad member now that he is with Reading & its not as if he improved much in last few months.
eL bashing rant was petty although some valid points too.

Noticed that myself too, but what can you do? :o
eL bashing rant was petty although some valid points too. Would agree, but I think that it was just lifted from their forum, which is a good way of getting fans views actually.

They do that a lot it seems - Bald Student was saying in the pub after that one of his comments on their forum was lifted and twisted so they didn't have to quote him exactly ("How many times have we heard...")
Only one way to reply to the anti-eL article - write a pro-eL article.

I wouldn't take one next game, let alone contribute to it. I'd like to know where any profits go from that "fanzine" first. More ad's than the bloody programme.

In their defence it is given out free.
I know what it costs to put even the Genesis Reporter together, and I think you'd be very surprised how hard it is to break even. I'd imagine print costs for their magazine are huge.
By the way, as we're on profits, I hope the Drum bought by the puchase of the first Genesis Reporter was heard loud and clear on Wednesday and helped with the atmosphere. :)
First things first, how much to you think it costs to print YBIG
as someone said before the GR costs alot to put together.
I can assure you the costs are very high and with the ads we are still putting our hand into out own pockets.
Macy, i think you will find that there is plenty of reading in it, it's 32 pages as apposed to 20 and it has received super praise from many different quarters.
The EL rant was a letter sent to us, just someone's poinion but many valid points i think, thats why it was printed.
and as for the look, that's been welcomed hugely for us.
Fans pics look the part when they send them in ans it's easy on the eye.
It has a mag look and thats what we want but we want the fans view in it.
But as for making money, dont make me laugh, its free. so many peolpe are saying they would buy it and that we should sell it, who knows maybe in the future.
But for now i dont think you can argue that it is a very good read
Ps, anything lifted from the forum wasn't changed at all, and there was onley a couple of rants taken.

I hope that's not a dig at the 20 pages in the GR Mento, I'd hate to have to go and count how many pages of YBIG are ads and photos, and how much reading that leaves ;) :D :D
I thought both YBIG and the GR were better efforts this time around than the first issues, which is to be expected I guess, I actually liked the anti-EL rant, a few valid points and well argued (if a little paranoid :) )

Anybody else notice the scary lookalike between Zinedine Zidane and...our own editor, Troy McClure? :D

I would consider YBIG to be more of a mag and not a fanzine!!! Fanzines aren't suppsosed to have a glossy look or have ads, thats the beauty of them!!!
Although I've only seen one copy of YBIG it has great potential and maybe a more commerical option should be looked at, ie make it longer, A4 size, bring it out monthly and get it in the shops to sell!

   No!?!
Although I have been compaired to him on the football pitch though  :p
To be honest, there's no way YBIG could be made without a lot of advertising: Its free, gloss colour and (I would assume) employes a designer and pays photo royalties. The GR is just photocopied and has a fraction of the print run of the YBIG and still costs enough to produce. Id agree with Drum Reds comment that it doesnt really look like a typical fanzine, but you have to remember it has a different target audience than a typical fanzine does and things are obviously going well for them.

I thought both were excellent.
The GR was very close to the bone. I hope noone decides to try to sue it.

Would you print an anti-international fans/team article if it contained many valid points? - which would not be hard to write to be honest!

In short ya, but theres a lot of "if's" and "but's" to answer your question propperly and I dont have time to answer in full now, sorry.
Both fanzines (or should I say the fanzine and the glossy mag ;) ) got a write up/ review in the Drogs V Pats programme on friday.
A bit of free publicity for ye lads :) - wonder if you'll get a review in the next Irish programme :D

I wonder ;)
If any Drogs out there want to write something for the Genesis Reporter [perhaps about ye're recient financial turn around, move to being a pro club and proposed ground move] then Im sure those people at the genesis reporter (genesisreporter@yahoo.com) would love to print it ;) :ball:
