Yet another horror draw for an Irish team, our run of bad luck is not limited just to our men's teams it seems.

Unfortunately looks like we'll be getting relegated back to League B for the next Nations League.

Are these draw's even done randomly anymore? I fail to believe it's even possible to have this level of bad luck...

Lets not forget the U17s managed to get Germany,Portugla & Croatia in their QUALIFYING group...

The Under 21s got Italy, Norway and Turkey despite being second seeds. The women got Nigeria, olympic champions Canada and hosts Australia at the world cup.

It's just relentless.

28 games against those three sides.
Zero wins.

And if we look further back the last 2 Euro's we qualified for we were drawn into what was considered the "group of death" on both occasions....

On the positive side we're guaranteed a playoff spot. So this is gonna be six competitive games against three of the best teams in the world. That's a good learning experience for the younger and newer players in the squad. All the games should be in the Aviva too so they'll have a big crowd behind them.

Come the playoff we'll likely draw someone around our level or lower.

Come on, were Ireland we dont get teams our level...another top nation will likely bomb in their qualifying group and find themselves in the play off only for us to draw them....the usual stuff.

Would wager the England game will be in Aviva and the others in Tallaght.

Disappointed not to score against England last night, had at least two clear cut chances to get something from the game.
England were the far better side in the first half, and fully deserved their lead. Ireland got forward a bit more in the second half, in particular the last 15 minutes, but just didn't have someone who can finish.
The performances from the two games do give me hope we can at least be competitive against Sweden in the two games in a little over six weeks, and I think they need to be approached as a relegation play off.

Worked out nicely getting to play the French second team as they had already qualified. Takes most of the big hitters out of the equation for the playoffs. Though the likes of Scotland are still potential opponents.

The qualification system is interesting and I'd say it's only a matter of time before it's adopted for the men's tournaments to get rid of the Germany v Gibraltar type non-events. It heavily favours the stronger, higher ranked teams though (and in this case suits Ireland, but wouldn't be helpful to the men's team at this point in time).

What a win, think Eileen Gleeson really needed it as well, great momentum to bring in to the playoff. Finally a good use for Cork :D

Excellent victory against France's squad players. Really great to see that, in the space of a decade, the women's team have gone from playing in front crowds in the hundreds, to crowds in the thousands, to crowds in the tens of thousands - and hopefully two big home games to come this year - I hope the FAI will use the extra revenue from these attendances and appearances at major championships to grow the women's game so that in another decade, we will have a team that can consistently match the top nations.

Ireland get Georgia in the playoff draw.

Winner plays winner of Wales and Slovakia. We've recently beaten Slovakia 1-0 and drawn 1-1 in tight games that Ireland largely dominated. Also lost 2-0 to Wales in a friendly.

A very promising draw, I watched that Wales game and it was a bit of an aberration, somewhat rotated squad, tried to play a high press and were a bit all over the place, would hope to be in a much stronger position and more organized in the playoffs.

Not a surprise, but the home leg against Georgia will be a complete non event in terms of the competitiveness of the tie. The difference in standard between this and the League A matches they were playing earlier in the campaign is almost unbelievable.

And it was only 0-3 in the away leg when I posted that. Would be as well to do our bit for climate change and just call the second leg off at this point.

Complete mismatch in quality. 2-0 at HT and it should be at least 4 with the chances missed.

Much like watching rovers play Larne last week it's good to know that there are still some countries and leagues that are behind us still.

They should clear the bench and give as many minutes as possible to as many players as possible for the second half.

There was a seismic shock (in football terms) that play off opponents Wales struggled against Slovakia over both legs. I watched their home and away performances against Iceland in the Nations League 2023, and they really put it up to Iceland in both games, overly physical though as in they run around a lot putting pressure on the ball, compensating for technical shortcomings.
Still they should have beaten Slovakia with some degree of ease in order to be regarded as serious opponents in the play offs.
I'll go for an away draw followed by an emphatic home win.

This might be the first time this has happened for the women's team. It's happened quite a few times for the men's team, but not since the 2-1 loss to Italy at Euro 2012

McCabe very lucky not to have been sent off for a second yellow.

Ireland look like the better team but they need to put one away because Wales look more than capable of nicking one down the far end too.

So much for Vera Pauw's tactics supposedly holding the team back.

The actions of senior squad members to undermine her could only ever really be fully assessed against the direction of travel of the team afterwards.

To end up not making the following Euros via a qualification format that almost made it harder to not qualify than qualify speaks volumes.

Showed very little composure after going 1 down. Really disappointing not to qualify for these Euros because the team looks like they are good enough to compete at that level.

Really thought we would get the equaliser when those long throws were coming in down the stretch.

Thought the standard was really poor to be honest. We played better in Wales. But so much of the play last night from both teams was terribly amateurish.
The women's game has improved a lot in the last few years, which is great to see, but technically it has a long way to go.

And yes, I still feel uneasy about how McCabe stuck the knife into Vera Pauw at the end of the World Cup. Classless. She's one of o best players and i find it hard to like her after that. i'm sure she's not losing any sleep of course :)
