Is Sunday evening the standalone TV kickoff time that the LoI is looking for?!!

Def could be the standalone time we are looking at , it worked a treat on Sunday particularly for families for those physically attending, the 8pm kick offs on School nights are noticeably shy on kids.
I think when we played Galway on a Sunday there was only around 4000 there and it was a big game for us at the time
I would love a regular tv game on a sunday evening, its a great time to watch a match and you still have the night ahead after the match if you want to go out
Always thought we have a great entertainment product in LOI, just need some marketing experts to advise the FAI on how best to sell this to all the social media broadcasters!

To play devil's advocated a bit here - there's obviously been a lot of interest generated by the close title race - so Rovers v Shels didn't require much of a sell, same as Shels v Pat's the week before, compared to some random match in the 5th or 6th week of the season when the floating public aren't fully engaged.
It's probably fair to say that the Sunday evening and Monday night (against Bournemouth v Forest was it) kick-offs probably did work too. Maybe Friday night isn't a good night for TV. Most LoI fans will be at a game and then at certain times of the year it may be up against a Leinster or Munster match on TV.

I assume Tallaght or Richmond the preferred venue again regardless of who is in it.

Bohs in the playoff final in Tallaght would certainly generate a large "neutral" crowd ;)
I went to the Waterford Cork match last year and there were a good few rovers fans there as is it was a "home match".
Edit: Just to make it perfect it should be a Ronan Finn "super Ronan Finn" led UCD also in the final

That ol chestnut. Been kicking around for 30 years now and nothing has changed

To be fair I think the FAI have done a decent job of the leagues rebrand as of a couple season's ago.
Generally the leagues discourse has come on a ton in the past couple years too. The managers all now regularly command (back page) headlines with some of their quotes. Duff et al are all genuinely interesting characters though and this I think is the key to gaining the passive eyeballs around the country.

I'm not getting how the FAI is responsible for that though? Unless you want to go with their comical claim to have "created the atmosphere" in which colourful managers can make the back pages :D

Shels/Drogs picked for RTE 2 next Friday…
I’d have probably picked Pats/Derry myself but ho hum …..

I wouldn't be quick to praise the FAI for anything but I would have to hand it to them that they've done a decent job on their online presence since they announced the leagues rebrand in 2023. Their website, twitter and instagram pages were practically dead, now they are posting goals and updates minute after they happen which I think is a huge boost to the LOI in this attention economy.

Would have thought Pat's v Derry is the star game of the weekend. RTE are probably building "a story". Shels as league leaders leading into the final weekend against Derry.

Shels can win the league on Friday, so it's fair enough, IMO.

100% right. Entirely likely derry lose to pats and rovers continue to be poor in Oriel.

No they can't. If they win they get to 60 points, Shamrock Rovers don't play until Sunday and are still be able to get to 61 if they win their two remaining matches.
It's an odd choice. As a neutral with my team not playing that night, I'll be watching Pat's vs. Derry on LOITV.

Long overdue, but great to see regardless. First world problems granted but in 2024 as much as it's great to have LOI TV it's been a pain not having the option to cast it.

Great news for the league. Hopefully it's promoted well enough and it cuts down somewhat on people using the dodgy box if it's a bit more accessible to people on their phones and TVs.

Don’t think many people that have a dodgy box which includes LOITV will decide to also pay for LOITV regardless of it being more accessible now. There will be some that do that and hats off to them because subscribers are vital to the viability of the service but unfortunately the people that do decide to do that will be in the minority IMO.
Dodgy box issues aside, hopefully the improvement in accessibility of the platform sees an upturn in subscribers anyways

I presume the app will allow you to cast with chromecast or whatever the google alternative is now or Apple air play it onto a smart tv with out the need for a cable ..........

I've cast every game I've watched to my TV this season. Sometimes there are issues but I'd be lying if I said I didn't have similar issues with other "premium" services as well (dazn and NFL game pass are the worst streaming service I've ever used).

Good news. GAAGO worked smoothly enough when I've used that. Watching LOITV through an app should be more customer friendly.

Even allowing for my Pats bias, I genuinely think that Pats/Derry would have been a better choice for tomorrow night. I’ll be there, so doesn’t affect me either way, but a crucial game for both sides, whereas only Shels have something to play for in the other game. It’s not even as if Shels can clinch the title tomorrow, in which case the choice would have made sense.

Not a hope that’d have come into consideration for TV, it’s the third biggest game of the night by a considerable distance behind the other two

Last day of the 2015 season they televised Sligo v Limerick and occasionally popped into Rovers v Drogs? Probably doesn't count.

All these live games the last few weeks have us utterly spoilt. We’ll be getting ideas above our station if this keeps up.
I'm glad to see the news channel is finally getting an LOI game. I'd always thought that it was probably fair enough if the LOI games weren't getting the numbers on prime time of a Friday evening on RTE2 but you'd have to think that a live football game would be able to compete with a news channel which is on a hourly loop throughout the day.

Only down side is the quality of the news channel, it's barely viewable for sport
