Finneran becomes the youngest player at 15 to make a match day squad for Blackburn. Was named Irish U15s player of year this year and captained the U16s during the Torneo delle Nazioni tournament back in May which they won beating hosts Italy in the final.

I'd assume he'd have to be if he is a 15 year old on the bench of the first team given that (and i dont know the rules that well so i might be wrong) he couldn't move to England from Ireland until 18?

Anyone have any insight on him from the underage setup? Presumably is seen as a top prospect at his age group. Also is presumably a dual eligible player given that he's in England at 15.

It's an emerging story Stu & but it seems he might be Irish born but grew up near Blackburn. Unconfirmed though.
I know the Dual Nationals thread on the England forum has mentioned him before tonight.

Has been with Blackburn since U8s so would qualify for a British passport on residency if both parents were also Irish.

God almighty, I hope his connection is that close. If he's this prodigious then he's bound to attract significant England attention.

Think he's the only 08 born player to play PL2 this season so far & now on the first team bench at 15 in a league match. Had a quick look at Blackburns injured list tonight & there are x2 midfielders on it but it's not like the Alex Murphy situation with several in that exact position out injured. & the England forum don't seem to know his links either but he has several mentions before tonight & obviously he's just levelled up on all radars.

Any of you folks feeling your age this winter? Left-sided defensive midfielder Rory Finneran (15!!) on the bench for Blackburn tonight, home to Bristol City.

Jesus this is way too young for him to be near the first team. Do they not understand the storm of stupidity they have unleashed on the internet. We have years of worries of him switching ahead of us now.

And in that little video interview he says he was a bigger clubs before ending up at a lesser one and now rocketing into the first team picture. I have heard that one before :(

No sponsor on the kit he's wearing in that image - Blackburn are sponsored by a vaping company, and at 15, he's too young to advertise vaping.

I remember when a player born in 2007 was a sign that I'd been playing Football Manager too long.
I keep getting older and the wunderkinder stay the same age.

Physically imposing, dark-haired defensive central midfielder with Irish parternal grandparents that was previously with a recent Premiership winner, rocked up at a smaller club and progressed rapidly through their ranks to the first team. What could go wrong?

Thinking through these examples some more, the grandparents really do need to step their game up a bit and start demanding some non-negotiable commitment to the Irish cause or, ideally, start making some dying wishes like Jimmy McCarthy's grandad. The underage expat GAA teams and summer holidays in Ballydehob only go so far these days.

His name is Rory and his sister is Maeve. That must put an end to it no?
Although I never thought someone called Deco would go and play for England
