A thread for some comment on the Kerry District League related stories etc.

Kerry DL have qualified for the Munster Final of the Oscar Traynor Cup.

KERRY SQUAD: Shay O’Meara, Shane Doolan, Seán Foley, Liam Spillane, John Ward, Adam Ward, Matthew Horgan, Matt Keane, Alvaro Garcas, Tripimir Vrlijac, Shane Lowth, Arron Ward, Dara O’Shea, Pauric Looney, Seán Lovett

Kerry FC v Kerry DL should be a preseason friendly, and possibly a regular preseason friendly.

Oddly, even though the KDL results have been duly recorded every week since August, the tables haven't been updated since October! Still hard to look past either of the Killarney clubs, though Dynamos do appear more competitive this season, and the Park should get promoted from Premier A.

Agree on the Kerry v KDL friendly idea - nearly a month between the two Munster Senior Cup matches, even if the first is won, so you'd hope there's a number of challenge games arranged to try out different line-ups and arrivals.

From the tables in the above link, it'll be Kerry League v Waterford League in the Munster Region final. Both will advance to the quarter-finals.
I've read elsewhere that Leinster, which has 2 groups of 4, will have 2 finalists and a winner of a playoff between the Leinster semi-finalists advancing to the quarter-finals.
The third round in Connacht will take place of the 14th of a January. Haven't heard anything about what's happening in Ulster.

Kerry lost to Waterford in the inaugural Oscar Traynor Inter League Munster Final. Kerry are still in the quarter-finals. I think they'll be drawn against a provincial winner from another province.

I see Killarney Athletic are through to the last 32 of the FAI Junior Cup. The last Kerry club standing.

Kerry DL are taking on Clare DL tomorrow in the Oscar Traynor Cup. Kerry are already qualified for the Munster semi finals.
I'd like to see a friendly arranged between Kerry FC and Kerry DL.

Not sure why The Kerryman had reported that Kerry DL had already qualified for the semi-finals. A bad loss to Clare today. Limerick Desmond and Limerick District played out a 1-1 draw. That would appear to be Limerick District through as group winners on 7 points and Limerick Desmond through as group runners up on 4 points.

Without a proper Munster League for KDL clubs to aspire to, are there KDL clubs that might be tempted to join the mooted Third Tier/National League?
Killarney Celtic are only missing Treaty from the LoI First Division preseason schedule. Are they just seeking good competitive games or might they be considering an opportunity to play at a higher level?

5-0 loss for Killarney Celtic away to Cobh Ramblers.

If Killarney Celtic apply for the National League, how would that affect Kerry FC? One of the reasons given for choosing the countywide model when the latter was first set up was that no one club would be able to draw enough support from across the county to be viable.

Was only idly musing if Killarney Celtic would apply. Kerry FC is representative of all of Kerry. A club operating out of the KDL wouldn't change that. Currently there is obviously no pathway for clubs beyond the KDL. The National League does throw open the question - are there clubs who want to play at a higher level if a pathway allows?

Don’t think it would have much impact on Kerry FC. I also think Celtic would be well down the pecking order to be selected - small population area, already an LOI club representing the county, club has not been hugely successful on provincial or national scene to date, other counties (Clare, Tipp, Mayo etc. would get preference you wud think). Don’t get me wrong, Celtic are a great forward thinking club, but just can’t see it happening unless they are short of the 20.
