It was a special day in Dublin 15 for the children with additional needs that took part in what is becoming a regular event in the capital. Eight*clubs from around the city attended the Blitz on November*11th. Supervalu and Nudie Foods sponsored the event and generously provided goodie*bags and healthy food for the participants.*
Granada, Swords Celtic, St John Bosco, Glasnevin, Cambridge United, Finglas United, Bohemians*and Castlenock Celtic were among the*clubs that participated in the Blitz. Mick Kennedy, DDSL Operations Manager, organised the event and included a ‘Parade of Players’ where players from each club would hold the international flags of their adopted teams for the opening of the Blitz.*
Minister of State for Transport, Jack Chambers TD, Mayor of Fingal, Howard Mahony and Councillor Tom Kill attended to add their support for this great initiative run by the FAI and DDSL. Also in attendance was FAI’s Football for All Programme Coordinator, Patrick O’Reilly, who works on programmes and works with the FFA affiliates to facilitate a clear pathway to cater for players with various disabilities from club to country where abilities allow.*
Through the Fingal County Council, a newly installed all weather pitch and running track facilitated the Blitz along with the support from the volunteers, who have worked tirelessly to promote the event. The Football for All initiative has seen great growth in clubs with increased participation over the last number of years, ensuring increased inclusion and sport for all.*
