Blow for College as Martyn moves to Derry City
Friday, April 12th, 2002
Derry City are poised to sign talented UCD midfielder Ciarán Martyn, according to a report on Soccer Central.

Martyn is to report to Derry in a month's time when they return to pre-season training and the Sligo native will prove a valuable addition to Kevin Mahon's squad, which is not exactly bursting with talented midfielders.

Martyn only scored three goals for UCD this season but in previous seasons he has been much more dangerous attacking from the engine room. At just 22, the former Republic of Ireland under-21 international will be keen to advance his career at Brandywell.

Martyn was linked with a move to English club Tottenham Hotspurs during the highest point of his career at College.

That's not going to help next season. With Doolin probably stopping playing we're going to be two good plyers short. UCD need another striker. Hopefully some of the under 21s will be ablt to fill the gaps.

The problem was that Doolin kept playing him out of position as a striker. He was probably worth a starting place in midfield but as a striker he wasn't up to the job.
