5 goals in 9 appearances. Has been played on either wing by his club.

Initial instinct is that he should at least get on in Amsterdam v Holland and then start v New Zealand.

It's a real story of opportunity, circumstance and opinions, last year his club brought a Brazilian in on loan in January for his position who had a great first game & was awful after that. Rodgers even said he was the missing piece & everything would be ok now after his debut. McAteer was on loan at Wimbledon at the time. Relegation, new manager, ex Man City assistant & he put him straight in the side & he has been flying so far. Fans player, exciting, has a trick & acceleration too. I was really hoping it'd be him & am delighted it is. Few England fans on big bigsoccer annoyed about this one, they hoped it'd be Roberts which tells a story too. Now get him capped.

Ive seen Leicester twice this season and he stood out, although his name may have had something to do with that! Im curious to see how long it takes to get the paperwork sorted. England seemed to be able to get it done in a heartbeat when Rice flipped so I hope we are not sitting here this time next year still dealing with delays.

You'd also hope its a full done deal and it being leaked doesnt cause the English FA to go all out to keep him.

Looks to be out injured for another four weeks so even if his paperwork is sorted he mightn't feature. If he's out for the full four weeks he'll be only just back in training a few days before the Dutch game.

Don't think the FA are gonna mind too much. He's 22 in November and never featured at underage for them.

Some England fans will always moan at dual nationals wanting to play for another country, but as said elsewhere they'll be the same fans who don't rate Jarrod Bowen.

“Kasey and Tom (Cannon), they are already on the pitch, not with us, but they are already on the pitch and it’s nice to see them next to us working." Leicester boss Maresca quoted in the Leicester Mercury, 21 October.

Should hopefully get a couple of games with Leicester before the next internationals. Even if his paperwork isn't fully sorted you'd assume that he'd join up with the squad. Meet up with the lads even if it's gonna be Kenny's last international window as manager.

Penny for Jon Gallagher's thoughts with these new recruits

What do you mean by "these"? Assume you're on about Key as well as McAteer. It sounds like Key has made himself available and very unclear whether he's been "recruited".

Given no one knew about McAteer a good chance he made himself available too rather than the FAI chasing him.

Wouldn't think the FAI are doing much chasing as I doubt they have the bandwidth but wouldn't be too surprised if Kenny knew about him. One of his few strengths has been finding players and coaches.

If Gallagher wants to be involved he needs to get himself back to Europe realistically.

Basically, yes. And he didn't do a whole pile at Aberdeen, albeit he was much younger.

He's been coming back into the squad and team a bit more since finding himself increasingly on the outs earlier in 2024. Got a start today and just grabbed the third goal against PNE. Sounds like he has done well but had missed a sitter in the first half.

He has his goal... this time Kasey McAteer gets his header right when left unmarked in the middle of the goalmouth to meet a cross from Abdul Fatawu who did superbly down the right and then dinked the ball in with his left.

I'm watching it Stu and he didn't just miss a sitter at 0-0, he missed the target, free header, back post, had it in his eyeline a long time. He scored a sitter to make it 3-0 after Vardy had done the heavy lifting with two goals, which isn't quite the same. Had a decent hour plus overall though.
